Northrop Grumman Engineer Systems 5 - Avionics in Woodland Hills, California
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally qualified and proven senior Engineer to join our internationally recognized team of experts who are revolutionizing the digital cockpit capabilities of fixed and rotary wing military aircraft for the United States and its allies. The senior Engineer will report to the Integrated Avionics Systems Engineering manager in Woodland Hills, CA. The senior Engineer must be capable of leading Integrated Avionics System (IAS) technical efforts in support of program execution and acquisition of new business.
For program execution, the senior Engineer:
Serves as the technical authority for program activities.
Coordinates with the government, Northrop Grumman, individual Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads and Engineers, Project Engineering Leads and Functional Directorates to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline.
Collaborates with the management team (functional engineering, program office, supply chain management, contract, and business management) in Woodland Hills, California, to deploy processes and metrics per Northrop Grumman Command Media, and to identify any resources required to execute the engineering statement of work.
Ensures that the decisions on the configuration of the deliverable products and the technical approaches achieve expected system performance and technical requirements.
Serves as the focal point for definition and control of technical requirements for existing and future product development.
Over the life cycle of the program, ensures technical coordination/ integration across program elements from requirements definition, delivery, test, through product support.
Ensures the technical solution meets the customer requirements within the established cost and schedule constraints, and coordinates technical input to major technical reviews, failure/anomaly investigations and corrective actions plans.
Is accountable to the Program Manager and Customer for the flight certification and is a key participant for the Flight Readiness Review process, ensuring that Northrop Grumman-developed products meet customer certification requirements.
For acquisition of new business, the senior Engineer:
Develops deep and enduring Customer relationships by working closely with them and understanding their needs and schedule; that is, establish long-term partnership between the Customer and the IAS team.
Prepares and presents briefings, concept papers and proposals to Customers and Northrop Grumman IAS leadership to develop new business opportunities and satisfy unmet Customer needs.
Develops and maintains product line evolution roadmaps and avionics architectures.
Provides input to investment decisions (e.g., IRAD, marketing and sales, capital expenditures) and strategic teaming agreements.
Collaborates with the technical and marketing teams to plan and execute the technical development of IAS, Mission Computers, and various other Integrated Avionics System products.
Controls and optimizes the product and process over its life-cycle by developing the architectural frameworks and product descriptions
Coordinates with on-going advanced concept development programs working closely with program and business development directors
Conducts cost-benefit trade-offs and analyses to assess new product development initiatives
Implements metrics and data-driven decision making to track and improve IAS product efficiency and effectiveness
The successful senior Engineer candidate must meet all Basic Qualifications and most Preferred Qualifications.
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline with a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience, M.S. with 12 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 8 years relevant experience.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing to effectively interact with high level Customers, along with demonstrated experience in preparing concept papers, briefings, trade studies, proposals, progress reports, test reports, and similar documents
Excellent leadership skills to plan, estimate, organize, integrate and manage technical activities across multiple engineering disciplines, along with the ability to effectively motivate people to work as an integrated team across locations, companies and cultures
Experience with employment of CONOPS for the development of system architectures and requirements that are optimized to meet the customer's operational needs at lowest cost
Experienced integrator of Airborne Mission Sensors, Weapon Systems, Navigation and Communications Suites, Vehicle Management Systems, and Airborne Net-Centric Communications Systems
Broad base of Integrated Avionics Systems technical experience, across multiple platforms, and encompassing the entire product development lifecycle including deployment
In-depth technical expertise in systems engineering techniques; requirements management, interface control and verification; trade studies and analysis of alternatives; development of end to end IAS solutions; aircraft flight management systems, avionics systems, computer architecture/software, and mission systems; and military air worthiness certification processes and procedures
Experience with the airworthiness certification process for a military aircraft (e.g., AR 70-62 or equivalent), including the development of Airworthiness Qualification Plans, and flight test planning and execution
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must possess a current active Secret Clearance or above.
Proven track record as a successful IAS senior Engineer on multiple fixed and rotary wing military aircraft for at least 10 years
Experience with program security both in Anti-Tamper (AT) and Information Assurance (IA), including NIST SP800-53 and AT Security Classification Guide
Extensive experience in certification of military aircraft systems for operation in civilian airspace, including DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, DO-236, DO-229, DO-283, etc. and Global Air Traffic Management (GATM)
Experience with international programs and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
Experience with Model-Based Engineering, software development and maintenance, and capability process improvements
Experience in laboratory demonstrations/prototypes of cross-segment capabilities, technical teaching experience, and management of development and test teams
