Northrop Grumman Space Systems is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in Wallops Island, VA. As an integral member of the Antares integration, test, and launch operations team, the Principal Electrical Engineer will support and manage various aspects of the assembly, integration, test, and launch of the Antares launch vehicle to deliver supplies and scientific equipment to the International Space Station under the NASA Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) contract.

Specific duties may include:

  • Work in a fast-paced team environment performing launch vehicle avionics hardware & software system and subsystem level integration, test and launch operations.

  • Coordinating and leading Electrical Technicians performing functions supporting activities such as, integration, test, checkout, operation, and maintenance of complex electronic flight, ground testing and launching systems.

  • Hands-on electrical integration and test of flight hardware; operating and maintaining electronic or electro-mechanical, and optical communications components, circuits or systems.

  • Creating, editing, reviewing, and maintaining test procedures utilized during manufacturing and launch pad operations for correctness and completeness against mission requirements, launch vehicle configuration, and component changes and modifications

  • Supports and leads the testing and/or evaluation/validation of electrical systems

  • Coordinating and performing testing with NASA, FAA, and Wallops Flight Facility Range and Safety personnel

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with launch vehicle Systems, Mechanical, Quality and Safety Teams.

  • Supports the maintenance and upgrading of Electrical Ground Support Equipment and its associated network equipment (routers, firewalls, servers, clients, etc...)

  • Troubleshooting, documenting, and dispositioning flight and test equipment hardware and software discrepancies and pursuing root cause and corrective actions;

  • Evaluating and implementing Lean solutions to decrease cycle times.

  • Maintaining launch day schedule by performing other duties as necessary

Experience Requirements:

  • The candidate will possess a fundamental knowledge of and an understanding of the interrelationship of electronic hardware, electro-mechanical devices and control and data acquisition software

  • Hands on electrical integration and testing experience with multiple sub-systems or components involving a broad range of engineering disciplines such as; analog, digital, power, optical, RF, and embedded systems is desirable

  • Candidate must possess skills needed to interpret mission requirements, launch vehicle configuration, and component changes and modifications in order to update and maintain and perform test procedures. Review test data to ensure that hardware has passed all required tests and is flight ready.

  • Demonstrable proficiency with standard EE tools such as: oscilloscope, DMM, RF Analyzer, electronic strip-chart system, etc...

  • Knowledge and experience using test automation applications and data analysis tools such as LabVIEW and or MATLAB is desirable, as well as familiarity with both DOS and Linux command structures and systems.

  • Experience in the testing of space-flight instruments and/or spacecraft or related electronic and electro-mechanical components and systems is desirable but not required.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or other related technical field

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

  • Able to work independently and complete assigned tasks without direct supervision

  • US citizenship is required

  • Ability to work in a fast pace team environment and multi-task

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Willing to work overtime and 2nd shift operations 15%, or as required

  • Travel less than 5%
