Northrop Grumman Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer in Ventura, California

At Northrop Grumman we develop cutting-edge technology that preserves freedom and advances human discovery. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We continue to innovate with developments from launching the first commercial flight to space, to discovering the early beginnings of the universe. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

We are seeking a self-starting, motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dedicated Southern California field site team. The team designs, develops, tests, delivers, and operates advanced prototype, unique marine systems.

The candidate will have the opportunity to support a variety of unique mechanical equipment designed for marine applications. This involves a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines including mechanical design; structural analysis; thermal analysis; pressure vessels; material selection; hydraulic and pneumatic system design, component selection, troubleshooting, and repair; and metallic and non-metallic fabrication techniques that will leverage the candidate's existing skills and challenge them to develop new skills.

The Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to innovate conceptual designs involving hydraulics and pneumatics, structures and mechanisms, and heavy lift systems. The systems operate in marine environments so strength, weight efficiency, and proper material selection for corrosion considerations are all important. Mechanical analysis of the design, detailed drawing creation sufficient to communicate design intent, subsequent design changes and documentation, planning paperwork for production and attendant production support, system installation, testing, operation, training, and maintenance procedure documentation are all within the scope of the engineer's role. Candidate must be able to work closely with customer personnel and other engineers and work within challenging schedules. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
