Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Engineering Manager 2 in supporting the Power & Controls System (P/CS) Operating Unit 100% on-site at our Sykesville, MD site.

As an integral part of our Engineering & Sciences leadership team you will support the diverse engineering portfolio in the P/CS operational unit. You will provide both engineering functional leadership and technical project execution leadership while overseeing approximately 12-16 engineers organized into a multi-disciplinary team. This team will range from in experience and technical skillsets. Individuals in this team work across several Sykesville, MD based programs.

The P/CS Engineering Manager 2 will also be expected to perform productive (direct charge) work on programs in addition to functional management duties. It is anticipated that given the size of this section, the candidate will spend ~70%- 90% of their time on programs in a technical/leadership role, and ~10%- 30% of their time on functional management activities. This leader must be able to create a culture of well-being, inclusion and engagement that attracts, retains, and enables a high performing workforce.

In this role, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the program(s) technical roadmap strategy

  • Provide Engineering support aligned with Power and Control Systems technical domains

  • Ensure the business is appropriately staffed and enable resource sharing across multiple business areas

  • Lead strategic actions to improve the business of engineering

  • Drive engineering strategy and practices pertinent to the Naval Systems E&S organization, including but not limited to investments and talent strategy

  • Growing the headcount with continued, strong focus on retention efforts, engagement initiatives, and diversity

  • Drive key talent development and workforce planning efforts

  • Elevate engineering rigor

  • Drive predictable financial and program results

  • Prioritize engineering investments aligned with strategic imperatives

  • Demonstrate thought leadership on digital transformation

Candidates must have exceptional leadership and teambuilding skills, strategic thinking, strong technical acumen, and the ability to lead multiple engineering disciplines across programs. The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and therefore must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation experience and the demonstrated ability to work seamlessly with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the organization. The candidate must have the ability to build consensus and resolve conflict. The candidate must collaborate with business area leadership, and other functional partners to resolve complex issues in a timely manner to help meet program commitments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields.

  • U.S Citizenship is required.

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance. An interim DoD Secret clearance is required to start.

  • 3 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries

  • 2 years demonstrated success managing technical teams

  • 2 years of experience working in a technical role supporting Power or Control Systems engineering development

  • Proven experience as a team player and collaborator

  • Very strong engineering background with demonstrated experience managing through design and production

  • Solid understanding of engineering process with execution experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.

  • Program management experience

  • Success as a leader of large technical organization

  • Experience managing large control accounts with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance

  • Experience with product line management and product line engineering

  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing affordability initiatives

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.

Salary Range: $145,000 - $217,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
