Northrop Grumman Manager 1- Material Handling in Sykesville, Maryland

The Manager, Material Handling supervises employees who use a variety of equipment such as forklifts, conveyers, cranes, hand carts, and power trucks to move materials, parts, assemblies, and finished products or goods within a plant, office, or warehouse.

She/he oversees the processing, packaging, and storage of supplies, materials, and equipment and may assist in selecting appropriate containers and wrapping methods for materials to be shipped or stored.

The Manager coordinates with engineers, shippers, carton manufacturers, and carpenters for special crating and packing requirements and supervises employees who maintain records and check invoices/bills of lading. The chosen candidate will also advise management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed and coordinate interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc. and schedule and expedite the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Ensure inventory accuracy through regular review and resolution of issues

Distribute various status reports to Operation's Program Managers

Monitor inventory for regulatory compliance

Monitor and ensure timely and accurate release of material to production

Coordinate movement of overflow material to and from storage facility

Support logistics and inventory needs for Government Property and Customer Furnished material

Drive resolution of non-receivable material

Manage the coordination of calibration process for approximately 2500 calibrated devices

Monitor and direct daily shipping and receiving activities

Plan, schedule, and execute the purchase of necessary packing materials

Manage consumables and as required material inventory

Ensure compliance to all regulatory and safety requirements

Establish goals and objectives for the assigned team members

Provide leadership that coaches, motivates, teaches and communicates


Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience; candidates with a High School Diploma/GED will be considered if they have 9 years of relevant experience

Shipping, receiving, and/or inventory experience

Experience with an MRP/ERP package

Strong computer skills

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

Experience in a manufacturing assembly environment

Previous lead or supervisory experience

Extensive SAP experience specializing in Inventory and Production

Experience in a government contracting/DFARS environment

Experience with design and build of custom packaging
