Northrop Grumman Marine Systems is seeking a Manager of Manufacturing Engineering for our Sunnyvale, CA facility. This individual will manage three core Manufacturing Engineering departments responsible for supporting Propulsion and Power Generation machinery product lines through all processes related to final system assembly, machinery to test stand integration, final acceptance test process execution, and test facility system design, operation and maintenance.The group will be responsible for providing daily floor support to WIP processes such as processing material discrepancies, optimizing sequence of operations, defining Manufacturing Instructions for routings, identifying continuous improvement opportunities to improve efficiency, and implementing process or equipment changes, tooling and shop aid needs to improve throughput.

Roles and Responsibilities

Core job responsibilities consist of:

-Lead the team to monitor and improve manufacturing processes, increase efficiency, reduce product cost and improve yields on all products

-Exhibit competent knowledge of all processes on the floor and providing technical oversight of direct reports work

-Serve as prime point of contact to others within the organization and expected to brief upper management of technical aspects of core team’s projects, product issue resolution, personnel development plans and status, organization issues/progress

-Interface with Process Area Managers (PAM’s), Operations Program Managers (OPM’s) and Programs on a daily basis to understand technical issues and where we need to focus efforts in supporting production

-Manage assignments to employees based on production support and process improvement opportunities identified

-Administer and oversee technical program/project execution by managing scope, tasks/schedules/cost projections for all projects

-Provide detailed headcount forecasting and work to improve cost center yield

-Assume Cost Account Management responsibilities providing technical support to programs

-Support career development, employee engagement, time approval, staffing, yearly reviews and all other related activities for team members

Process Area Specific:

-Provide technical support to production in all areas related to assembly and test processes, equipment and tooling

-Plans and designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assembly and test operations

-Incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality

-Understand product and process requirements and assist the shop in interpretation and implementation

-Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques

-Oversee and help coordinate process improvement activities that reduce Assembly and Test time and increase throughput

-Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and develops those techniques

-Act as main process area interface when investigating, identifying and resolving discrepancies and performance issues when necessary. Understand impacts to production and coordinate providing alternate processing recommendations

-Support the identification and procurement of assembly and test equipment and facility preparation/improvement

-Assist in coordinating training activities for new equipment and processes

-Support estimating activities for new or existing products as requested

-Monitor current and new industrial technology through literature review and visits to appropriate facilities and industry events

-Maintain contacts with personnel in related industries through participation in professional societies and attendance/presentation at seminars and shows

-Support the identification of and improvement for product specific safety issues. Support the identification of and improvement for process specific safety issues

Basic Qualifications:

-BS Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline

-10 years of relevant work experience

-Able to obtain a secret clearance

-Exposure to machining and welding processes

-5 years of technical project management

-Experience managing a team of 8 members

-5 years of experience managing a team

Preferred Qualifications:

- Minimum 10 years of experience with the construction and operation of marine propulsion and power generation machinery and supporting systems (steam, lube oil, control oil, cooling water)

- Have a strong background in the assembly and testing of marine based machinery

-Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent

-Experience in a factory environment with hands on development of heavy fabrication, machining and assembly based processes.

-Hands on experience in the assembly of NGMS products and supporting processes

-Continuous improvement Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt including extensive use and understanding of statistical analysis tools

-Working knowledge of Siemens NX CAD applications

-Proficient in basic and parametric solid model design

-Exposure to Siemens Teamcenter PLM system

-Demonstrated success in leading, collaborating and developing cross functional teams on complex technical projects.

-Expertise in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated experience running a work cell or engineering group.

-Demonstrated experience in facilities and capital planning, resource and capacity planning

-Prior success in leading and developing a strong technical staff
