Northrop Grumman Marine Systems, a historical campus in Sunnyvale, CA, specializes in the development, manufacturing, assembly and testing of missile launching and handling systems, and propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. Our products are built nowhere else in the country.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Manufacturing Operations Program Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA. You will support the manufacturing of launcher systems working on various manufacturing processes for welded fabrications, machined components and final system assembly. The qualified applicant will become part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, performing activities in a variety of cross-functional technical and business areas.

What You'll get to Do:

  • Lead and direct cross-functional Manufacturing Engineering teams during proposal, design, manufacturing, and delivery phases of products in development and production phases.

  • Coordinate the development of manufacturing processes across multiple disciplines of Welding, Machining, Tooling Design, NC Programming and Assembly.

  • Understand technical challenges in process development and work with peer engineers in various departments to resolve.

  • Facilitate Design Review process and prioritize DFM improvements to improve manufacturing efficiency.

  • Coordinate tooling and equipment procurement with Global Supply Chain and Program Office.

  • Develop and execute to project budgets and schedules, including Earned Value Management System (EVMS), critical path management, Estimates-at-Completion (EACs), and workload forecasts. Serve as Control Account Manager for various programs.

  • Align non-recurring engineering tasks to program schedules and budgets.

  • Ensure functional department resources are aligned to program development needs for manufacturing readiness.

  • Monitor, facilitate progress and report on development tasks.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve overall manufacturing efficiency for the program.

  • Execute miscellaneous Manufacturing Engineering tasks as necessary in any discipline.

The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.




Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 2+ years of relevant work experience, or Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 0+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.

  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure or specialization in machining processes, equipment and tooling.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.

  • Experience leading matrixed engineering teams as Technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM) managing Earned Value Management System (EVMS) projects.

  • Fluency with developing and executing project schedules.

  • Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing, and Test process.

  • Problem-solving experience in a team environment.

  • PMP certification a plus.

  • SAP MES and NX CAD/CAM experience.
