Northrop Grumman FACILITY CARPENTER/MAINTENANCE (2nd shift) in Sunnyvale, California

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Construct, remodel, repair, finish, paint and install temporary or permanent wooden forms, structures, partitions and furniture such as tables, cabinets, benches, and finish concrete foundations and floors.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Band saw, circular saw, jointer, planer sander, trowel, transit and level, brush, various paint equipment, lathe, hand tools such as saw, hammer, level, nail, gun, tape, square, chalk line, pliers, putty knife, etc. Safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, etc.

MATERIAL

Lumber, plywood, insulation, tile, plaster board, hardboard, shingles, concrete, nails, bolts, screws, glue, tape, paint, solvent, putty, and glass.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE OF PAY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

  1. Receive work assignment from supervision.

  2. Read and follow state and local building codes, safety regulations, drawings, specifications and work authorizations.

  3. Move specified material from storage to work area using lumber cart or other available handling equipment.

  4. Set up and operate all woodworking tools and machines to cut, shape, drill, and sand material to size including selecting and installing proper cutting tools and abrasives and setting stops, guides, feeds and speeds. Layout and mark reference lines on material as required.

  5. Assemble, fit, fasten, sand, finish and install components and partitions, walls, roofs, door frames, windows, doors and related hardware, wallboard, paneling, floor and ceiling tile, weather stripping, counters, cabinets, benches, templates, fixtures, and mockups, according to trade practice, drawings, sketches and

instruc¬tions.

  1. Patch roofs by applying tar and replacing & nailing shingles or tar paper.

  2. Layout, cut openings or block windows and mount wall fans or air conditioners.

  3. Locate and fasten pencil sharpeners, blackboards, window shades, blinds and curtain rods as specified.

  4. Layout, build, align, and level concrete forms, mounting pads, bolts and chutes working from foundation drawings. Estimate quantity of cement required and finish cement according to specifications or practice.

  5. Develop, cut and build temporary or permanent platforms and stands from general information.

  6. Prepare, tape, and sand drywall joints and apply texturing to walls as required.

  7. Prepare surfaces, mix and apply by using spray equipment, brushes and rollers, a variety of coatings to building interiors and exteriors, furniture, machines, equipment and rolling stock.

  8. Check work for conformance to specifications.

  9. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly. condition.

  10. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Journeymen Carpenter with 5 or more years of experience in wood framing and finish carpentry.

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

Trusses construction and repair experience.

Industrial building experience. Roofing experience.
