Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Staff Chief Engineer / Sr Staff Chief Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA.
What you'll get to do:
Perform life cycle and root cause failure analysis of steam facility equipment, including boilers, cooling towers, condensers, and other high temperature and pressure systems.
Research, plan, design and develop new systems and operating profiles to increase test facility efficiency.
Perform thermal and heat transfer analysis on various test facility systems and components.
Support testing of main propulsion and power generation equipment.
Prepare technical reports and present to Test Facility Engineering Management.
Prepare proposals, statement of work, project planning and coordinate operator/contractor work assignments.
Responsible for Test Facility Operational Procedures to ensure safe operations and technical accuracy. Consult on training planning.
Maintain and develop preventative maintenance procedures and corrective maintenance planning for overhaul and repair of systems and components.
Develop and maintain program specific Pre and Post Test checklists.

Basic Qualifications for Staff Chief Engineer
Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 14+ years of mechanical and/or electrical engineering work experience; Master's Degree and 12+ years of mechanical and/or electrical engineering work experience; PhD and 9+ years of mechanical and/or electrical engineering work experience.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) acuity.
Proven competency in the operation of propulsion and power plant machinery; fluid and thermodynamic systems experience.
Project Management acuity and MS Office competency.
Extensive experience in infrastructure improvement planning, project management, and financial management for significant test facility improvement projects.
Applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.
Works on unusually complex problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior.
Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives and affect the image of the organization's technological capability.
Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and / or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Basic Qualifications Sr. Staff Chief Engineer
Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 20+ years of mechanical and/or electrical engineering work experience; Master's Degree and 18+ years of mechanical and/or electrical engineering work experience; PhD and 15+ years of mechanical and/or electrical engineering work experience.
Exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness. Apply and/or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts. Viewed as an expert within the field. Able to communicate effectively at the highest levels.
Develops information which extends which extends knowledge in a given field. Information may form the basis of newly developed concepts, theories and products.
Acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs. Plans R&D programs and recommends technological application programs to accomplish long-range objectives. Work accomplished typically supports long-range strategic goals. Work is checked only to the effectiveness of results obtained, typically requiring a long-term perspective. Virtually self-supervisory.
Designs research and develop highly advanced new applications resulting in new product / business opportunities for the company. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would have a long-term negative effect on organizations reputation and business posture.
Serves as consultant to top management in long-range company planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements. Prime spokesperson on company's technical capabilities and future directions. Often instrumental in attracting and obtaining major new company business.
Test Facility and/or Power Generation/Chemical Facility operational experience.
FEA modeling experience.
Design Software Acuity (AutoCAD, Cero, Solidworks or equivalent).
Salary Range: $161,000 - $241,400
Salary Range 2: $178,700 - $268,100
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
