PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plan the sequence of operations, determine and improve manufacturing techniques, methods and tooling, and coordinate these for the complete manufacture (winding, molding, fabricating and testing) of complete production launch systems such as closures, canisters and VSG rings.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Molds, mixing equipment, ovens, templates, filament winder, power shear, roll, grinder, saws, vertical boring mill, hydraulic expander, routers, tooling, fixtures, alignment and clamp rings, cutting and forming tools, hand tools, wrenches, gloves, goggles, respirator, rule, scales, beakers, clamps, brushes, viscometer, timers, abrasive blaster, vacuum pump, drills, taps, reamers, micrometers, vernier calipers, protractors, dial indicators.
MATERIAL: Ferrous and non-ferrous materials, and shapes, explosives shells, segments, flanges, cable, containers, resins, fibers, adhesives, solvents, water, mold release, acids, sealers, dye penetrant, hydraulic fluid, hardware, urethane, cloth, abrasives, coatings, rags, etc.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS : Direct lower classified assemblers in the proper techniques and methods of assembly.
WORKING PROCEDURE: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR J0B DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
Receive work assignment from supervisor.
Read and understand safety regulations and procedures and MI packages including drawing (in metrics), change notices, operation sheets, specifications and work authorization.
Determine and improve techniques, methods, processes and sequences for performing work where operation sheets, drawings and MI are not detailed requiring some coordination with engineering.
Devise and construct templates, fixtures and hand tools where shop made tools are not adequate to meet drawing tolerances.
Shear. tool, grind and expand tube sections to specified sizes in accordance with drawings, specifications and written instructions.
Load, position and clamp tube sections on tooling mandrel, set tool, feeds and speeds and part off tube sections to length.
Setup, layout, filament wind and cure production composite tubes, according to established methods and techniques. Demold, repair, finish and bond as specified.
Conduct operational tests of equipment utilizing pneumatic, hydrostatic and hydraulic systems.
Check work for conformance to specification.
Sign off operations completed and obtain first piece and final inspection signoffs on operation sheets as required.
Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.
Maintain in effect certifications for epoxy bonding, urethane mixing and molding and explosive installation and take and pass periodic working and written tests.
This is a Union Represented Position.

High School Diploma or GED
5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment that involved precision measurement equipment
Background in nonmetallic fabrication (vacuum assist bonding, machining foam, etc.)
Experience using SAP software
