The Threat Products and Services is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of MDA and MDA's Ballistic Missile Defense System. This position is located in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Missile Modeling Engineer role serves as a developer and verifier of kinematic threat models developed to support MDA. Essentials Functions for this position:

  • Requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for developing high fidelity ballistic missile and advanced threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/framework/media.

  • Good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes.

  • Ability to research, interpret and verify parameters required to build, replicate and propagate missile or space launch trajectories to include staging, debris, counter measures and RV / payload traits.

  • Ability to apply standard engineering and mathematical algorithms to ensure the accurate portrayal of expected missile or space launch behavioral characteristics during all phases of powered and un-powered flight.

  • Able to work with little or no direct supervision, work as an integral member of a product delivery team, and meet time critical delivery schedules.

  • This role requires candidates to be on-site.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications (BQ's):

This requisition may be filled at either a Systems Engineer or a Principal Systems Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for a Systems Engineer 2:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 2 years of relevant experience, or 0 years' experience with a Masters' Degree.

  • Experience in Modeling, Simulation, and automation

  • Programming background to include languages such as MATLAB and Python

  • Strong knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of ballistic missiles

  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment

  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer 3:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 5 years of relevant experience, or 3 years' experience with a Masters' Degree; 0 years with PhD.

  • Experience in Modeling, Simulation, and automation

  • Programming background to include languages such as MATLAB and Python

  • Strong knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of ballistic missiles

  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment

  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements Level 2/3:

  • Strong math, physics or engineering background

  • Previous experience with modeling flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable

  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance is highly desirable

  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory generation, counter measures, and debris is a plus

  • Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $79,300 - $118,900

Salary Range 2: $97,500 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
