Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking qualified applicants for a Systems Engineer 5 position of a Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Architecture (BOA) Spiral Lead who will be responsible for the technical, cost, and schedule execution of one or more BOA Spiral activities. This position is located in Colorado Springs, CO at MDIOC on Schriever AFB.

The BOA Spiral Lead will be chiefly responsible for representing the BOA program at informal and formal design and customer reviews. The BOA Spiral Lead will report to the BOA Program Manager and assist in coordinating with Functional and sub-functional Leads to ensure resources are appropriately allocated and de-conflicted to conduct all phases of the BOA system lifecycle activities (coordination and status of requirements development, baseline software development, requirements and system testing, system fielding, and sustainment at operational locations). The BOA Spiral Lead will be responsible for: coordinating with Systems Engineering to identify hardware and software architecture changes and requirements for the spiral, develop, monitor, and report spiral metrics, communicate testability assessments, provide system verification status, and receive and report impact assessments on anomalies and failures; coordinating with the software development on cycle release content and any assistance on defect/deficiency verification; coordinating with the network and cyber functional areas on integration, verification, and check-out activities; provide spiral content, architecture, and schedule information to program management and the customer; coordinate external element testing with C2BMC; communicate spiral schedules within program management and the customer; report verification test progress weekly to program management; perform duties of Control Account Manager for applicable BOA spiral activities.

Performance of the above duties will occur at the MDIOC, Schriever AFB location with 10-15% travel to other MDA sites and NG facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or Software Engineering and 14 years of relevant work experience

  • Strong technical and managerial skills.

  • Ability to lead a diverse team in the execution of requirement development, software development, testing, fielding, and sustainment of new and existing system software/hardware baselines.

  • Earned Value Management expertise

  • Leadership experience in managing complex technical development efforts with extensive customer oversight.

  • Candidate experience must include: proven cost, schedule, and technical management experience ideally in a spiral development lifecycle; excellent communication (written and verbal), demonstrated multi-tasking ability, process improvement skills with ability to analyze problems, determine root causes, and implement a corrective action plan; teamwork skills, ability to analyze complex problems, reach concrete conclusions, and develop and communicate effective recovery options and/or resolutions.

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain an SCI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or Technology Engineering and 14 years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience in DoD system deployment processes and system sustainment practices is highly desirable.

  • Experience with BMDS elements or components, to include operational systems (e.g., Aegis, Patriot, C2BMC), and developmental systems (e.g., GMD, THAAD), in either a development, test, or operational environment.
