The Communications Solutions Business Unit (BU) Engineering team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Qualification, Integrity, Reliability, Maintainability Systems Engineering Manager based out of San Diego, CA.

What You'll get to Do:

The qualified candidate will be part of a Reliability and Maintainability team that develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs. Recommends design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability. Complies and analyzes performance reports and process control statistics; investigates and analyzes relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives. May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks. As necessary, proposes changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability. May determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

The qualified candidate will part of an Integrity team that conducts structural and thermal analysis, determination of Durability Control Points, develops, coordinates, and conducts full qualification test plans, procedures, test execution and documentation to verify the product meets the intended service life in the presence of physical and electromagnetic environments. Will participate in Root Cause and Corrective Action analyses.

The qualified candidate will be part of a product safety team that evaluates and mitigates system safety hazards, identifies and controls hazardous materials used in product design and production.

The manager will oversee a team of five electro-mechanical engineers, reporting to a CS BU Dept Manager. The manager will provide guidance to subordinates based on organizational goals and company policies.

Roles and responsibilities :

• Coordinating with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance reviews to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary.

• Provide significant support to programs and/or proposals. This will include but is not limited to systems engineering efforts such as estimating, planning, risk management, managing cost and schedule (EVMS) and quality on large programs to meet contract commitments.

• Candidate must have ability to facilitate/mediate in conflict resolution matters

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM related engineering discipline with 5 years of related experience with BS; 3 yrs with Masters

  • Experience with leading, developing, and managing teams either with direct or indirect reports.

  • Candidate must have knowledge of the systems engineering life cycle, be proficient in process development as well as functional organization aspects.

  • Candidate should be a US citizen with an active/current DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidate should have direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership (IPT lead).

  • Candidate should have background with EVMS and CAM responsibility.

  • Candidate should have a Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of the Specialty Engineering (Availability, Maintainability, Reliability, System Safety) and related disciplines.

  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of the development and verification of Product Integrity (Structural and Thermal Analysis, Durability Control Points, Environmental and Electro-Magnetic Testing) and related disciplines. Candidate must have working knowledge of Windchill (Relex), FlowTherm and NX Nastran.

Salary Range: $126,600 - $189,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
