Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer - Payloads to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.
As a Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer, you will play a critical role in the research, development and test of electronic systems and solutions that keep our world safe. This includes the design, development and test of various electronic equipment and systems, including radar and radiation detection equipment; radio, television and other communications equipment and systems; circuitry components; analog and digital computers; and control and test equipment.
The selected candidate must be able to apply engineering principles and techniques to provide support to the Mission Systems Integration Product Team (IPT) in the integration, test and delivery of sensors and payloads. This includes support for System Integration Lab (SIL), test and post-test data analysis. Beyond support for activities listed above, the candidate must be proficient in the areas below:
Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
Problem Solving: Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
Discretion/Latitude: Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for desired results.
Impact: Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.
Liaison: Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 9 years of experience or Master's Degree in STEM with 7 years of experience or 4 years with PhD..
Active DoD Secret clearance (will be needed to start)
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with coding & scripting languages (i.e., MATLAB, Python)
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to learn data analysis processes and techniques
Ability to perform System Integration and communicate complex technical concepts to program leadership
Willingness to learn Imagery Analysis techniques and best practices
Willingness to learn sensor integration processes and techniques
Willingness and ability to identify, track and work technical issues
Experience in System Integration
Experience working with Sensors
Experience in Data Analysis
Experience in Radar & Imagery Analysis
Experience in a development environment
Experience with Post-Flight Analysis
Experience supporting large scale Test effort

Salary Range: $129,700 - $194,500
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
