We are looking for you to join our team as a Physicist based out of our San Diego, CA or Baltimore, MD location.
What You'll get to Do:
In this role you will join our R&D team to apply cutting-edge physics to problems of national security. Active areas of interest that the Physicist will contribute to include particle beam dynamics, particle accelerators, particle detector technologies, advanced laser technology, and other applications of high-energy physics, plasma physics, and related disciplines. The ideal candidate will seamlessly work across disparate scientific and engineering domains, working with subject matter experts from other fields.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Evaluation, simulation, design, development, or operation of particle accelerators, fixed-target beamlines, ionizing radiation detectors, related software, or other related components and systems.
Liaising with and maintaining a network of collaborators in academia, national laboratories, and other similar institutions.
Ideating and proposing new concepts that apply physics to problems of national security
Demonstrated track record of innovation and accomplishment in the candidate's field of training.
Strongly self-motivated and capable of working independently under only consultative direction.
Strong ability to learn new topics quickly and independently solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including communicating complex technical details to a non-expert technical audience.
Desire and initiative to propose and initiate new projects that are aligned with business objectives.
This position will require onsite work however for this role we may be able to offer flexible work arrangements and some remote work may be possible.
This position may be considered at a higher grade level based on the requirements below.
Basic Qualifications Principal Physicist:
- BS in physics or related STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience, MS in physics or related STEM field with 3 years of relevant experience, or PhD in physics or related STEM field with 0 years of relevant experience.
Basic Qualifications Sr. Principal Physicist:
- BS in physics or related STEM field with 9 years of relevant experience, MS in physics or related STEM field with 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD in physics or related STEM field with 4 years of relevant experience.
Basic Qualifications Principal and Sr. Principal Physicist:
Experience with one or more of the following: particle beam dynamics, particle accelerators, particle detector technologies, advanced laser technology, and other applications of high-energy physics, plasma physics, and related discipline
Ability to obtain DoD Secret; US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in accelerator physics, particle physics, high-energy physics, or nuclear physics.
Experience working in a hands-on laboratory environment working with common and advanced electronic equipment.
Experience operating, designing, and commissioning ionizing radiation detectors, photomultiplier tubes, particle accelerators, or fixed-target beamlines.
Experience in software development using C, C++, or Python with Git SVN or similar.
Experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
Experience in physics-based modeling and simulation, including particle-in-cell tools, GEANT4, or MCNP Monte Carlo radiation transport frameworks.
Experience in digital twin design or model-based systems engineering.
Experience working in an Agile development environment.
Experience working on large, cross-disciplinary, and geographically dispersed teams.
Ability to obtain higher level clearance.
Salary Range: $99,800 - $157,000
Salary Range 2: $123,800 - $194,500
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
