Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.
Our program is seeking a candidate to support the Vehicle Management System (VMS) Hardware Avionics team as part of the Navigation Subsystem team. The VMS group is responsible for vehicle flight control and safety. The Hardware Avionics group is responsible for management of the following VMS subsystems: navigation, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Radar Altimeter (RadAlt), Air Data System (ADS), flight actuation system, Integrated Mission Management Computer (IMMC flight computer), VTC, and the Ethernet switch. This position has an emphasis on the Navigation subsystem.
General duties for the candidate will include:
Navigation subsystem lab testing
Flight test support
Other duties as needed
Successful candidates for the VMS Hardware Avionics team will have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and the ability to organize work, manage time, plan, and prioritize.
VMS team member Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
VMS team members ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
VMS team members perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of related experience with a BS, or 3+ years with Master's, or 0+ years with a PhD. For the Sr. Principal Engineer Systems level, a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 9 years of related experience with a BS, or 7+ years with Master's, or 5+ years with a PhD is required.
Experience working with GPS system and understanding of how it works, as well as experience working with inertial sensors and understanding of how they work as applied to military aircraft applications.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Excellent understanding of the GPS system, the GPS Signal in Space characteristics, DGPS systems, inertial sensors, GPS/INS tightly coupled Kalman filters, GPS receiver design

Proficiency with test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, signal analyzers, multi-meters): Some experience desired
Experience with SW Tools: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Visio), MATLAB
