Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a SoftwareManager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

The selected candidate will hold a leadership role in the Program and manage approximately 12 software engineers working on the Program. The candidate will analyze, design, develop, test, integrate and maintain Mission software and support tools while utilizing software engineering best practices and standards. Candidate will participate in the full life-cycle activities of software development in an Agile development paradigm.

In addition to Program Statement of Work, the candidate will be responsible for the functional management duties include conducting performance assessments, managing staffing needs, developing your employees, conducting communication meetings, administering disciplinary actions, performing compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/approval and other routine personnel issues. Functional management role is allocated for 15% of the candidate's time. This will fluctuate during the year due to business needs and the performance management cycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize software engineering best practices and standards to develop highly innovative and ingenious solutions to unusually complex problems

  • Full knowledge of software development lifecycle and extensive technical expertise

  • Actively mentors others and share knowledge across the team

  • Seeks to improve processes and embracing change to increase overall efficiency of the team

  • Collaborates across teams to identify dependencies between teams in advance to minimize integration issues

  • Holds a leadership position on the team

  • Work closely with program-assigned systems engineering, software development, and management professionals to ensure that the software lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiency

  • Hold 1-on-1 meetings with employees to developing, coaching/mentoring employees in their career

  • Periodically meet with employees' assignment managers to obtain performance feedback

  • Flow down information from Department and Software Directorate

  • Manage program's staffing needs

  • Support meetings and audits as needed by functional organization

  • Identify and remedy potential issues before they become problems

  • Utilize excellent 2-way verbal and written communication skills (upward and downward)

Basic Qualifications:

BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other applicable STEM discipline and at least 5 years of experience

Must have experience in the full lifecycle of complex software systems

Must have knowledge and understanding of standard Sector software engineering

Must have active, in-scope Secret clearance and PAR

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a current and continuing full-time assignment on the program

  • Team lead experience on the same program as the engineers in your section

  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills

  • Strong team-building/collaboration skills

  • Possess time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities
