Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Software Engineer 5 Software Architect to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), CA.

The selected candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, senior software engineer with experience working in a process-oriented software development environment. This position is for a JAVA software architect.

Essential Functions:

  • Create software detailed design artifacts to meet software requirements by collaborating with MS IPT SEIT

  • Create sequence diagrams at the service boundaries

  • Create supporting UML Diagrams

  • Collaborate with MS IPT SEIT in development of software CONOPS

  • Collaborate with SEIT Design Reviews (PDR, Internal Design Review (IDR), etc.)

  • Collaborate in Software Engineer (SWE) Design Community of Practice (CoP)

  • Collaborate and lead Architecture CoP

  • Document and maintain software best practices

  • Investigate technologies, perform trade studies and provide recommendations to SW management.

  • Collaborate with Software Development teams to support peer reviews and provide architecture guidance and best practices

  • Support planning and daily scrum meetings

  • Review and update story acceptance criteria and act as stakeholder for development task sell off

  • Ensure software design and development complies with the overall technical vision of the system

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels including Systems Engineering, Hardware Design, Software Engineering, Integration, and Test.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of software engineering experience OR

  • Master's Degree in STEM and 12 years of software engineering experience OR

  • PhD in STEM and 9 years of software engineering experience

  • Direct experience developing Java applications

  • An active DoD Top Secret clearance

  • The ability to obtain program access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with object oriented programming, design patterns, JMS, Web Services, XML and related technologies (i.e., XPath, XSLT, XSD)

  • Experience developing enterprise solutions for Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) in a SOA environment

  • Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
