Northrop Grumman Engineer Quality 2/3 in Salt Lake City, Utah
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Quality Engineer 2/3 to join our team in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.
Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
Interface with program management, supply chain, contracts, engineering, and manufacturing functions to ensure that effective quality standards are in place and that quality products are delivered to customers. Establish positive working relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Provide guidance and support to projects on quality, risk management, and regulatory requirements. Implement the mission assurance quality management plan on assigned programs. Ensure that project and process control are compliant with requirements, objectives, and contracts.
Review and interpret contractual documents, regulations, and procedures to implement quality related requirements and to support audits. This review includes applicable specifications, standards, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies. Accurately apply quality requirements as flow downs to shop orders, purchase requisitions, and/or subcontracts.
Disposition manufactured and procured material with material defect occurrences. Initiate and track to closure defects and corrective actions both internally and with suppliers. Process and disposition material review board actions. Represent quality on configuration/change control boards, help resolve quality issues related to Nonconformance, Corrective Action, and End Item Data Packages (EIDP's).
Administrative duties in support of Quality Management System including but not limited to writing procedures and generating reports in support of the quality system and its performance, support internal and external audits.
Possess good interpersonal skills to successfully interface with diverse groups or individuals. Be able to prioritize, manage time efficiently, and work with minimal direction. Operate as a proactive self-starter with problem-solving skills and earn a reputation of responsiveness.
Roles and Responsibilities
Develops, modifies, implements and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished products.
Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place and being met.
Identifies and reports product or process non-conformances and/or non-compliances.
Ensures that corrective measures are performed to completion, meet acceptable reliability standards and documentation is compliant with requirements.
Represents the organization in finding solutions to difficult technical and contractual issues.
Has frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.
Assures contractual work products are completed and delivered on-time.
Perform Specification Compliance Reviews, First Article Inspections per (AS9102 or equivalent) and Source inspections.
Initiate Corrective Action Plans and work with suppliers, manufacturing and engineering personnel to identify root cause and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
Perform process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure the supplier's processes are robust and capable.
Strong communication skills (both oral and written) will be necessary to support the assignment and weekly reports.
Be able to analyze and present data to all levels of leadership
Provide project management guidance and support to projects and processes
Establish positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams
Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:
Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field
2+ years of experience in a quality assurance, mission assurance, or related experience.
Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:
Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field
5+ years of experience in a quality assurance, mission assurance, or related experience.
Basic Qualifications for both a Level 2 & a Level 3:
Have worked in an ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management System Environment
Confidence to enforce Quality Management System policies and procedures, while also working as part of a Team.
Must be familiar with standard Visual and Mechanical Inspection techniques and tools.
Ability to successfully interact with both internal and external customers on a variety of technical solutions.
Ability to read Drawings and other Technical Data required.
Good communication skills required, both written and oral format and presentation skills..
Proactive self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving skills and responsiveness.
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
US Citizenship required
Required Technical Skills for a Level 2 & a Level3:
MS Office computer skills required. (MS Access, Project experience a plus)
Knowledge of SAP system.
Understanding of continuous improvement principles.
Ability to read and interpret Drawings and Technical Data and Documents.
Self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision. Good time management skills.
Mechanical Inspection hands on experience.
Understanding of Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) as associated with MRB/FRB investigations.
Ability to read contract and Purchase Order requirements and determine quality flow down to the manufacturing factory floor.
Experience developing, collecting, and analyzing metrics.
Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action
Experience interfacing with suppliers
Presentation and data packaging skills
Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions
Skilled at supporting internal and external audits for QMS.
Exposure to lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies
Experience with J-STD-0001 class 3 and IPC 610 Soldering and IPC 620 cable assembly Inspection
Previous experience working in an environment delivering products for a defense/military environment
Knowledge of statistical process control, data visualization, and/or measurement analysis methods.
First Article (AS9102) Documentation experience a plus
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).
Previous experience in a DoD, DCMA and Missile Defense Agency environment or with a DoD provider of products and services.
