Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Cyber Systems Engineer 2 to support large computing systems and state of the art solutions to a wide range of technical problems for classified programs and projects supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). The position can be located in St. Louis, MO or Columbus, Ohio.

For an administrator with coding experience, this is a great opportunity to ensure operations of IT systems, create custom data parsing logics using Python, and providing engineering opportunities of data transport systems.

The Engineer will support classified operations, with responsibilities including: designing, installing, configuring, securing, troubleshooting and testing real time data transport and processing solutions in support of classified Department of Defense (DoD) programs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supporting Design and troubleshooting Data Collection and Delivery for real-time operations

  • Utilizing Lab environment to develop data parsers and data delivery methods

  • Coding many small scale data processing scripts/logics also called data parsers. May be required to support coding efforts within a java environment.

  • Documenting efforts and design outcomes to facilitate deployments to production environments.

  • Building and managing Red Hat Linux computing infrastructure

  • Building and maintaining systems in accordance with DoD policies and procedures

  • Resolving application and server based outages in an operational environment.

  • Recommending appropriate actions to improve performance, monitoring and tuning systems to achieve optimum performance and load balancing

  • Maintaining baseline systems in accordance with DoD Certification and Accreditation (C&A) requirements

This position will require weekend support with first shift hours after initial training period of 90 days. (8am-4pm; 9am-5pm)

The selected candidate must obtain and maintain a DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 (or higher) compliance certification prior to starting the position. For a list of qualified certifications, please reference the following link:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related technical degree) plus 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in Computer Science (or related technical degree) plus 0 years of experience; or an Associates Degree in Computer Science (or related technical degree) plus 4 years of relevant experience; or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.

  • Basic knowledge of a programming language, such as Python, Java, Perl, or C, C

  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work closely with remote teams

  • Current, active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance

  • Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 IAT level 2 (or higher) Compliance Certification prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data transport, data conversion, and ingest solutions.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining Red Hat Linux systems and related software

  • Experience developing Visio Diagrams, Wiki Articles, and Standard Operating Procedures

  • Experience with a wide variety of cyber security tools such as Arcsight SIEM, Nessus, Splunk, Retina, Sourcefire, HBSS, Noesis, Wireshark, and full-packet capture solutions.

  • Knowledge and experience with DoD STIGs, VMS, and DoD FSO operational standards

  • Knowledge of big data and data mining techniques in DoD environment

  • Knowledge of Cyber analyst tools and workflows

  • Red Hat Linux Certification
