Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Nuclear Hardness and Survivability (NH&S) Systems Engineer in support of the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. This position is located in Roy, Utah. This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications listed below.
What you will get to do:
The successful candidate for this position will use their experience and education in electrical engineering and electromagnetic effects modeling, to aid in the design of systems that will operate in the following nuclear hardness environments: high altitude EMP (HEMP) environments, system generated EMP (SGEMP) environments, source region EMP (SREMP) environments, and internal EMP (IEMP) environments.
Specific duties to include but are not limited to the following:
Performs EMP analysis for verification of specification requirements and advises stakeholders on EMP validation tests.
This job function will be performed using CST Studio Suite EM Analysis software. Other tools such as ANSYS EMA3D and HFSS may also be used.
Oversee the analysis of shielding, components, and systems to satisfy the EMP/ HEMP requirements for the system.
Work with Systems Engineering Teams to design EMI/EMP hardened facilities/equipment/systems.
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer EMP requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Review MATLAB and SPICE circuit analysis. Review transmission line analysis and shield transfer impedance (STI) modeling and testing.
Basic Qualifications:
This position ma y be filled at a Systems Engineer level or Principal Systems Engineer level
Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline
Minimum 2 years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 1 year with a Master's (Principal level requires 5 years with a BS degree; 3 years with an MS degree; or 1 year with a PhD)
US Citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance adjudicated within the last 6 years.
Able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP).
Experience with electrical modeling and simulation tools to analyze effects on design for requirements verification purposes. Examples could include MATLAB, Spice, CST Studio Suite Software, & ANSYS EMA3D Simulation Software.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Top-Secret clearance with investigation in the last 6 years.
Ability to apply existing electrical modeling knowledge in novel and unique ways.
Strong desire to learn about nuclear hardness environments like HEMP.
Strong experience in EMI/EMP/HEMP Verification Testing.
Experience with modelling and simulation tools to analyze EMI/EMC/EMP/HEMP effects on design.
Knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference EMI/EMP/lightning design and analysis practices.
Working knowledge electromagnetic compatibility EMC/EMI/EMP and EM effects standards such as MIL-STD-188-125-1 & 2, MIL-HDBK-423, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-2169, MIL-HDBK-419, IEEE standards, RTCA DO-160 and related DOD standards/handbooks.
Familiarity with MIL-STD-1766.
Weapon System experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience).

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $73,400 - $110,000
Salary Range 2: $90,400 - $135,600
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
