Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for an Engineering Manager of Support Equipment to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The individual in this role will serve as the Integrated Product Team (IPT) Manager for GBSD Transportation Vehicle Development as well as being the functional lead for this area. This position reports directly to the Product Support IPT Director in both project and functional responsibilities. The Transportation Equipment IPT is responsible for the development and delivery of all GBSD unique transportation devices and associated support hardware, to include, but not limited to, major custom designed vehicles such as the Missile Transporter, Payload Transporter, Transporter Erector, and Post Boost Stage Transporter. The IPT consists of 12 engineers and a minimum of 2 specialty vehicle subcontractors. This position will be located in Roy, UT, and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. In this role, the selected candidate will:

  • Demonstrate strong technical and managerial leadership skills in the designs of specialty vehicles and associated components, products, and system interfaces in all phases of research and product lifecycle development, to include requirements, initial concepts, trade studies, early design influence, design and development, fabrication/procurement, engineering evaluation testing, verification, delivery of hardware, and support of delivered hardware

  • Lead a dedicated team with expertise that includes technical, subcontract management, cost, contracts and other functions that are required to execute EMD

  • Demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities

  • Be an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholder

  • Deliver all contractual requirements on cost and on schedule, while achieving all technical requirements and creating customer intimacy to support value creation strategies and actions

  • Develop support equipment proposals to include reviewing & updating Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW), performing technical evaluations on all supplier proposal submittals, and attending proposal related reviews

  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Create, review and finalize the program Statement of Work

  • Participate in the establishment and management of the program and subordinate baselines

  • Develop and adhere to master plans and schedules

  • Identify, allocate and manage program resources, including workforce planning

  • Develop and adhere to budget baselines utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM) or similar cost & schedule control methodologies and tools

  • Identify risks and opportunities and coordinate with project teams to mitigate and retire risks

  • Ensure the program team understands and adheres to contract scope, and manages change through control board activities

  • Adhere to all internal processes, policies, and applicable industry standards

  • Deliver presentations to customers, executive management and other program stakeholders

Basic Qualifications :

  • BS degree in engineering with a minimum of 14 years of medium to heavy weight transportation specialty vehicle design and development relatable work experience; 12 years with Masters; 9 years with PhD

  • 5 years of medium to heavy weight Transportation specialty vehicle design and development management experience

  • Experience with military and/or commercial medium to heavy weight specialty vehicle requirements analysis, trade studies, design solutions, acquisition, test, validation, and subcontract management

  • Intimate knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation requirements and associated design implementation experience

  • U.S. citizen

  • Active DoD Secret clearance, with ability to obtain Top Secret

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite - Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in engineering, Science Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) or related discipline with a minimum of 14 years of relatable work experience

  • 5 years of experience in Program Management of relevant military or commercial equipment

  • Intimate knowledge of state (CA, CO, NV, MT, ND, WY) and local Department of Transportation requirements and associated design implementation experience

  • Experience in the nuclear surety aspects of nuclear weapon systems

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance

  • Special background investigation within the past 5 years

  • Experienced in all aspects of the engineering development lifecycle

  • Experience with general Support Equipment requirements analysis, trade studies, SERD generation, design solutions, acquisition, test, and validation

  • Proficient in 3D modeling

  • Proficient with Teamcenter

  • Military service experience with Support Equipment and ICBM maintenance

  • Have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholder.
