Northrop Grumman is in need of a Propulsion Engineer - level 3 or 4 to work at its Ronkonkoma, New York ; Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; or Elkton, Maryland locations. The position will be hired to the demonstrated education, skills, and experience.

The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Job Duties:

  • Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company standards and customer requirements to develop propulsion systems (air-breathing, solid/liquid fuel rocket) for application in launch vehicles, missile systems, and space mission systems.

  • Provide performance analysis modeling and simulation to support design activities for the Advanced Propulsion and Systems product lines, as well as all Propulsion Systems and Controls product lines. These simulations include development of the subsystem models, selection of proper simulation code and methodology, execution of performance trades and documentation. Key responsibilities for this position include developing methodologies, interpretation of analytical results, and recommendation for design improvement.

  • Preparation of technical reports and presentations of work product to both internal and external customers. Provide technical assessments of test hardware and test data.

  • Develop analytical approaches to assist in the resolution of performance issues. Assist in design effort of test articles to provide necessary data for full scale applications. Provide propulsion performance services to IPT working group.

  • Assist project team in design of experiments testing to provide necessary data to support detailed analyses.

  • Support propulsion and subsystem IPT leads to ensure technical and cost execution of each system component.

  • Form close working relationships with group members as well as internal and external customers.

Basic Qualifications for level 3:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in STEM for plus at least 5 years of experience or a Masters degree in STEM and at least 3 years of experience, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • Proficient ability to use Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project)

  • Working knowledge of MATLAB, PYTHON, and other programing languages

  • Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.

  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for level 4:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in STEM for plus at least 9 years of experience or a Masters degree in STEM and at least 7 years of experience, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • Proficient ability to use Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project)

  • Working knowledge of MATLAB, PYTHON, and other programing languages

  • Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.

  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Active Security Clearance

  • High-Speed Airbreathing propulsion experience

  • Solid rocket propulsion experience

  • Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis, and Optimization experience

Salary Range: $104,600 - $157,000

Salary Range 2: $129,700 - $194,500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
