Northrop Grumman Defense Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Lab Technician to join our team in Rocket Center, WV just outside of Cumberland, MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.
Performs a variety of technical procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine reactions.
Makes and records observations; performs simple calculations; and collects and prepares data for evaluation.
Conducts laboratory support functions such as stocking and distributing supplies and equipment; arranging and dismantling apparatus
Performs technical and record keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements.
Performs technical procedures in the research and development department
Prepares ingredients for manufacturing propellants and explosives of various mix sizes
Assists in energetic development operations for warheads, munitions, and rocket motors
Assists in maintaining equipment and contribute to a clean and safe operating area
Handles explosive materials and liquid explosives on a daily basis (will be required)
Prepares chemical solutions used in production operations following established procedures
Document work in notebook or manufacturing record
Supports and participates in various laboratory tasks as required
This position supports production in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
• Two year degree or 2 years of related work experience
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision and use standard measuring equipment
• Must be able to work off shifts and weekends as required
• Experience using scientific instrumentation and equipment
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively, be active in a fluid schedule, work safely, and be a resourceful team member
