Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineering Manager 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Space Park, Redondo Beach, California.
The role is an exciting and influential position as G3/4 TIP Operations SPM. This SPM leads a team of >100 multi-government/multi-contractor personnel across multiple remote sites to accomplish critical program milestone activities. The candidate will be responsible for overall development and execution of two back-to-back TIP campaigns including the delivery of all final associated operational products to users. Responsibilities include technical management of the integrated systems and the team of supporting experts, coordination with internal and external stakeholders & customers, and successfully delivering deployed and activated systems. Candidate will also be responsible for the definition and design of the each vehicles' Checklist and vehicle configurations during early on-orbit operations, organizing training, exercises, and meetings, anomaly procedure development, setting achievable schedules, and providing operational expertise to payloads. Candidate is expected to be highly knowledgeable in the challenges, technologies, and solutions that address our spacecraft and missions, and have knowledge in several disciplines such as ground and flight software, C&DH, ACS, mechanisms, comms, propulsion, power, thermal and our adjunct payloads. Candidate will also be responsible for reviewing operational procedures and providing recommendations to Operations Stakeholders about ground commanding and vehicle configurations. The ideal candidate will have had previous direct leadership experience on our TIP teams as well as prior field operations of our AMP systems. The position also involves EVM of ops tasks, including support to liens packages, cost and schedule reporting.
The position is high visibility on a fast-paced program that requires excellent communication skills, leadership skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize objectives to meet aggressive schedules and the technical aptitude to perform technical analysis and technical decision making. Position also requires interfacing with other projects, upper level management and customers.
The successful candidate must exhibit the following:
An exceptional understanding of TIP Operations. Viewed as a System Operations expert.
Proven leadership on prior TIP team. We are in an unprecedented phase of our program with these being our most demanding TIP campaigns yet. The need for a leader who is able to create and maintain an inspired and agile team is paramount to our success.
Utilized SME expertise in training campaign(s) to identify and implement creative solutions for training TIP teams in the face of limited simulation capabilities. A street-wise understanding of our system capabilities and limitations will be necessary to know which capabilities must not be compromised, and/or improved, as we advance our designs.
Proven work experience leading large teams. Our work environment is fast paced, challenging, and includes ever-evolving customer requirements. The need for a leader who is able to create and maintain an inspired and agile team is paramount to our success.
Proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels. The candidate will need to navigate a sophisticated schedule (road to delivery) with multiple interfaces and internal/external/USG interactions in order to successfully deliver our systems.

Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering (5+ with a MS STEM degree, 3+ with a PhD STEM degree)
Active DoD Top Secret/SSBI clearance AND/OR active SCI
2+ years of space vehicle development and/or operations experience
Prior experience as a manager or team lead
Advanced Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math)
Excellent interpersonal skills
3+ years of leadership experience in space vehicle development and/or operations
Ability to interface with senior management, peers, and employees
Aptitude to develop and execute to a strategy
Self-directed technical leader with strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience in systems engineering for a Space Program
Active TS and SSBI clearance
