Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) is an industry-leading provider for launch systems capabilities serving national security, military, civil and commercial customers. SSSD has an opening for a Staff Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California, and will support the Engineering Technical Operations team.

The selected candidate will be expected to:

  • Support integration of strategic activities and organization initiatives, including but not limited to Long-range Strategic Planning (LRSP), Sector Operating Objectives (SOOs), functional reviews with Division/Sector Leadership, and affordability initiatives

  • Support development of executive briefing material, including but not limited to Strategic Space Systems Division Reviews, Leadership Forums, Sector Special Topic Initiatives/Reviews

  • Interface with program personnel on successful engineering execution via metrics, and identification and tracking of technical issues and risks

  • Support and lead initiatives as needed, including but not limited to:

  • gathering, integrating, synthesizing, and reporting on data and other engineering metrics

  • integrating investment activities such as Non-Contractual Technical Activity (NCTA) and Capital

  • managing employee development and engagement activities and resources including STEM outreach

  • site, facilities & infrastructure efforts

  • communications to Division/Sector Leadership and to the broader engineering population

  • supporting division wide Make/Buy framework by partnering with program and functional leaders

  • Partner with directorate teams to keep the common onboarding, staffing, clearance, redeployment, and release processes & tool usage and integrate & analyze data as needed to support performance tracking and reporting for both UR&R and experienced employees

  • Ensure utilization and maintenance of common tools and processes for functional homeroom

As a part of the engineering leadership team, the Technical Operations organization serves as a capability to run the "business of engineering" within the division, aligned to division goals and success. The ideal candidate for this role will be a member of the engineering team who seeks to understand, learn, and leverage greater business acumen through this role, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business with a commit to ethics and integrity.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline with 15 years of experience in engineering and/or aerospace industry; OR Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 13 years of experience in engineering and/or aerospace industry

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge of NG Space Sector / Strategic Space Systems Division

  • Active SCI clearance

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Experience with leading or supporting engineering projects and/or teams

  • Proven ability to produce reliable metrics and drive performance
