The Human Systems Integration team is seeking a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) to join a dynamic and strategically important team. In this position, the HFE will be expected to serve as an integrator to facilitate and manage the information flow among HSI domains and with Systems Engineering. In addition they will be expected to apply their domain expertise to ensure the evolving NG hardware and software systems are operable by US military personnel and extensible across platforms. This Human Factors expert will be expected to support tasks involving many of the domains of HSI, including Safety, Habitability, and Survivability. Job responsibilities include requirements development; user interface design analyses; software interface design/development support; hardware and maintenance interface design/development support; user interface design documentation; usability assessments; user group collaboration and working groups; and compliance with specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledgeable of the 7 domains of HSI (Human Factors, Personnel, Habitability, Manpower, Training, Safety & Occupational Health and Survivability)

  • Provide close coordination and communication among HSI domains through informal and formal meetings and participation and support to Technical Reviews

  • Review engineering designs and assessments for compliance with standards and customer requirements

  • Author/support the development of requirements that are compliant with Human Factors best practices and specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G

  • Support HSI domains in the verification of requirements

  • As required, support integration and coordination with customer HSI initiatives

  • Maintain a consolidated database of HSI issues/risks, mitigation strategies, and design decisions

  • Perform HSI analyses to identify, track, and control potential HSI hazards that may impact the safety of personnel or equipment

  • Collaboration with Hardware and Software Design Teams to ensure evolving design addresses program needs

  • Support design and development and assess suitability of the system for workstation geometry, habitability spaces (berthing, dining, etc.), and maintainability of system in physical and/or electronic mockups for personnel and mission needs

  • Develop personnel, human performance, manpower & training models for high risk areas for both operations and support

  • Plan and conduct tests to verify HE design of controls & displays, anthropometric reach, workload, situational awareness, usability, and user interface requirements for SW

  • Generate HSI-related CDRLs, including HEDADs for Maintainers, Operators, and Security Forces

  • Interface with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces

Basic Qualifications:

Candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited university in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 14+ years of experience in Human Factors Engineering OR

  • Master's degree from an ABET accredited university in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 12+ years of experience in Human Factors Engineering OR

  • PhDfrom an ABET accredited university in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 9+ years of experience in Human Factors Engineering

  • Experience with two or more of the following HSI domains: human factors, manpower, personnel, training, user experience, systems safety, personnel survivability, and habitability

  • Ability to clearly and accurately express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports and presentations to program leadership, IPTs, stakeholders, and the customer

  • Ability to interface with IPTs and work well in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment

  • Experience with the HSI notebook or other related tools to track SME data, HSI issues, design decisions and rationales

  • Experience developing and implementing research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate prototypes for HE design verification

  • Experience documenting human interface designs, rationales and analyses in HEDADs

  • Experience authoring Human Interface Design CDRLs in accordance with DoD Data Item Descriptions (e.g. DI-HFAC-81743, -80743, -80745, -80746, -80747 et al

  • Experience with HSI requirements, specifically HE design compliance requirements in Mil-Std-1472

  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government DoD security clearance at the Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and conducting human engineering experiments and tests

  • Significant experience with Systems Engineering processes

  • Experience working proposals

  • Experience with and knowledge of the USAF customer

  • Significant experience with the interpretation and application of MIL-STD-1472 to system design

  • Understand systems and design thinking as well as HMI/HCI design principles and practices

  • Experience with DOORS, MBSE and Cameo modeling tools
