Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Air Vehicle Performance and Sizing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach CA.
The candidate will perform Air Vehicle Performance and Sizing analysis within a Flight Sciences team, working with related disciplines including Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Mass Properties, Configuration, and others:
Conduct preliminary design synthesis and analysis of advanced manned and unmanned air vehicles demonstrating technical expertise and knowledge of other related disciplines
Tasks include takeoff/landing, mission and point performance characteristics of candidate aircraft designs as well as design synthesis and optimization of vehicles to meet operational requirements
Conduct vehicle sizing and performance trade studies to define and evaluate advanced concepts, identify technology requirements, perform parametric trade studies and provide design guidance to the other team disciplines.
Conduct competitive vehicle performance assessments of current U.S. and foreign inventory designs may also be required, as well as flight test data analysis and correlations to performance models.
Develop technical solutions to various problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
Interact and brief external customers, as well as serve as a technical lead.
Support vehicle performance and sizing analysis for vehicle programs from government organizations such as Air Force, Navy, NASA, DARPA and others.
Provide analysis, guide design teams to execute program goals, support proposal and business development activities.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM with 3 years of experience
Must have an active DoD Secret clearance or higher (that has a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or is under continuous evaluation).
Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of fundamental aircraft design, aerodynamic and propulsion parameters
Understanding of aircraft performance analysis
Experience with aircraft carrier suitability analysis, including but not limited to launch & recovery, bolter, waveoff, and nose wheel lift off
Familiarity with MIL-STD-3013A
Experience with multi-disciplinary design, analysis, and optimization (MDAO)
Experience in performing aircraft performance analysis, including mission performance, turn performance, kinematic maneuvering
Experience in aircraft sizing
Experience with generation of carpet plots
Familiarity with Matlab and Linux Operating System
Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
Salary Range: $104,600 - $157,000
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
