SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 3/4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.
The selected candidate will perform a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development, assembly, integration and testing of Space Vehicle mechanical and electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and systems. Their responsibilities will include development, fabrication, and assembly of new or modified mechanical components or assemblies, as well as collaboration with engineering on sub-system and system test methodology. They will assist with setting up and testing complete prototype and flight units and sub-assemblies under operational conditions and other duties as assigned including working with chemicals. Individual must be able to work closely with Quality Assurance and show that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician level 3 High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, 4 years of applicable experience performing mechanical technician competencies.
Mechanical Technician level 4 High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, 8 years of applicable experience performing mechanical technician competencies.
Active In-Scope SCI clearance (Required on Day 1)
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required
US Citizenship required
8 years of applicable experience performing mechanical technician competencies
Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as needed
Ability to demonstrate technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to mechanical assembly and detail-oriented harness configuration
Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment with the ability to read, interpret, and execute work to mechanical assembly drawings
Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to supplement work order and other data requirements
Team-oriented & self-motivated
Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with Northrop Grumman Corporation processes
Experience supporting space flight launch operations, including knowledge of required safety precautions
Experience working in clean room environments
Experience working on space flight hardware
Ability to operate elevated work platforms and scissor lifts
Ability to operate a variety of cranes, including use of rigging and lifting equipment
Ability to setup, proof and operate pneumatics, purge and vacuum systems as well as hydraulic (coolant) equipment. Includes the use of moisture analyzers
Ability to execute fueling operations, includes knowledge of required safety precautions
Ability to perform flight connector mates and demates
Ability to perform harness terminations, includes: 1. Assembly of pin/socket crimp type splice 2. Assembly of crimp devices 3. Grounding the shield of shielded wire
Salary Range: $61,700 - $102,800
Salary Range 2: $73,200 - $122,000
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
