SSSD has an opening for a Director 1 Engineering Restricted Payload to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

As the Director, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide oversight and direction for a large and diverse set of talent consisting of technicians, engineers, management, and other professionals

  • Ensure the cost, schedule, and performance requirements are satisfied with acceptable risk and appropriate margin

  • Frequent travel to supplier's facility to establish and maintain a strong on-site presence

  • Work with the team to set clear expectations for interaction, establish transparency and trust, and model professional conflict resolution

  • Ensure supplier compliance with the subcontract SOW, SDRLs, and governing requirements, including evaluation of cost/schedule/risk management, model validation, analysis and test results, requirements vs capabilities assessments, health and status of lower-tier suppliers, and adequacy/timeliness of verification planning activities

  • Provide cost efficient solutions to meet program needs with fixed test assets

  • Support program execution as the overseeing authority on execution reviews, independent review teams, red teams, non-advocate reviews, proposal reviews and other activities. Key differentiators are the ability to support programs while maintaining an objective technical perspective in quantifying and mitigating risks, capturing opportunities, and ensuring consistent, high quality engineering capability is delivered.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited academic institution

  • 10 years of space and defense industry experience as an IPT lead, and/or program management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex programs comprised of engineering, business, contracts, law, supply chain, production and mission/quality assurance disciplines

  • Demonstrated ability to create trusted relationships with customers and suppliers and successfully lead teams

  • Experience managing subcontracts, or experience with related technologies, payloads, providers, and mission applications

  • Active (in-scope) DoD Top Secret and SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering OR an MBA in addition to the Bachelor of Science requirement

  • Experience managing large subcontracts

  • Excellent conflict management and negotiation skills

  • Experience in driving non-heritage flight hardware developments through the Integration & Test process, and demonstration of the dynamic planning & decision making process required

  • Experience in driving change to the status quo such that quality is maintained while simultaneously achieving more aggressive cost and schedule targets

  • Experience in managing the recovery of failed programs or program elements in a very high stress, fast-paced environment

  • Experience executing lead roles in business development on large capture efforts

  • Experience with multiple contract types (i.e. CPIF, CPFF, FFP)

  • Experience with Intelligence, DoD and other USG customers
