Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer to work at our Missile Products Division in our Plymouth, MN location. The ideal candidate will have leadership abilities, an intense desire to learn, and experience working in an engineering environment.
Responsibilities will include working independently or in collaboration with more senior Systems Engineers within an IPT environment. The successful candidate will participate or lead the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge established technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Other functions will include functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation studies including allocation to hardware and software, interface definition and management, proposal writing and bidding, and management of recurring product cost and program risk.
Coordination of Systems Engineering activities with project management, project leads and engineers, and functional management.
Support more senior Systems Engineers to create and manage requirements, generate specifications while working closely with internal and external customers. The individual will leverage experience to develop CONOPS, generate timelines, perform functional decomposition and/or use case analysis, establish and control baselines, implement configuration management for requirement changes, establish and maintain requirement traceability, allocate requirements and decompose to lower levels and identify key and major characteristics.
Support reporting of metrics which include Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs), SWaP, and generate weekly reports.
Work closely with design IPTs to manage development of interface control documents and drawings to document the internal and external Interfaces. Support work with the external interface agent(s) to reach consensus on the interface design details.
Participate in the planning of the verification and validation program. Document the approach, philosophy, guidelines, and processes to perform and support the management of verification activities. Manage the requirements verification data base. Perform a requirement compliance assessment.
Provide Systems Engineering support to the team and create and review SE created artifacts.
Support the creation of large scale system and subsystem architectures(s), system physical views - system elements (blocks) and critical interfaces (internal and external) and develop system/subsystem architectural models
Support testing and/or evaluation/validation of complete system and subsystem analytical models or actual system implementation. Supports the application of using system or subsystem analytical models and simulations to validate large scale system behavior.
Support the preparation of supporting and presentation materials for SRR, SDR, SFR, PDR, CDR, SVR System Engineering Technical Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings and other formal program reviews.
Prepares or supports preparation of trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, Operations Analysis work such as mission analysis. Supports IPT leadership and interfaces to customer for System Engineering and product development activities. Attends Systems Engineering Technical and peer reviews as independent reviewer.
Supports cost estimates and project planning of the System Engineering portion of larger projects.
Support the cost account manager to manage cost, schedule, technical performance and monthly earned value management system reporting.
Requires a minimum of a BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science & 2 years of experience
Must be U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Previous experience with, or the ability to rapidly learn requirements management tools like IBM® DOORS®
Knowledge and experience using SysML or UML is highly preferred
CMMI experience is preferred
