Northrop Grumman Engineer Systems in Plymouth, Minnesota

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Systems Engineer at our Missile Products Division in our Plymouth, MN location. We are seeking an engineer with leadership abilities, an intense desire to learn, and experience working in an engineering environment. Responsibilities will include participating in and supporting more senior Systems Engineers with the planning, execution, and tracking of requirement development and verification within the Systems Engineering IPT. In addition, the successful candidate will support technical planning, system integration, Verification and Validation, cost, risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for the system. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. The successful candidate will participate or lead the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. The conversion of customer requirements will include functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies including allocation to hardware and software interface and specifications.

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Coordination of Systems Engineering activities with project management, project leads and engineers, and functional management.

  • Support more senior Systems Engineers to create and manage requirements, generate specifications while working closely with internal and external customers. The individual will leverage experience to develop CONOPS, generate timelines, perform functional decomposition and/or use case analysis, establish and control baselines, implement configuration management for requirement changes, establish and maintain requirement traceability, allocate requirements and decompose to lower levels and identify key and major characteristics.

  • Support reporting of metrics which include KPPs, TPMs, SWaP, and generate monthly reports.

  • Work closely with design IPTs to manage development of interface control documents and drawings to document the internal and external Interfaces. Support work with the external interface agent(s) to reach consensus on the interface design details.

  • Participate in the planning of the verification and validation program. Document the approach, philosophy, guidelines, and processes to perform and support the management of verification activities. Manage the requirements verification data base. Perform a requirement compliance assessment.

  • Provide Systems Engineering support to the team and create and review SE developed artifacts.

  • Support the creation of large scale system and subsystem architectures(s), system physical views - system elements (blocks) and critical interfaces (internal and external) and develop system/subsystem architectural models

  • Support testing and/or evaluation/validation of complete system and subsystem analytical models or actual system implementation. Supports the application of using system or subsystem analytical models and simulations to validate large scale system behavior.

  • Supports the preparation of system engineering materials during SRR, SDR, SFR, PDR, CDR, SVR and other formal program reviews.

  • Prepares or supports preparation of trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, Operations Analysis work such as mission analysis. Supports IPT leadership and interfaces to customer for System Engineering and product development activities. Attends Systems Engineering Technical and peer reviews as independent reviewer.

  • Supports cost estimates and project planning for the System Engineering portion of larger projects.

  • Support the cost account manager to manage cost, schedule, technical performance and monthly earned value management system reporting.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires BS in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, or Computer Science & 2 years of experience

  • CMMI experience (or exposure so they have some process related background).

  • Must have active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one

  • Ability to rapidly learn new computer tools.

  • Knowledge and experience using SysML or UML is a plus.
