Responsible to ensure engineering tests serve mission objectives and mechanisms are in place to execute the tests. Responsible for testing all customer samples. Oversees the operational aspects of engineering tests and serves as liaison to program, engineering and line management. Reviews status of test requirements, manages schedules and prepares reports. Selects and supervises technicians during test. Assesses anomalies and develops resolutions to documented procedures in conjunction with Test and Quality Engineering.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a System Test Engineer OR Principal System Test Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in support of the Triton - MQ-4C program test and sustainment activities. This position will be based at NAS (Naval Air Station) Patuxent River, MD but will travel up to 50% to the customer's domestic and international locations.

Position Overview:

The Triton - MQ-4C ITT (Integrated Test Team) is a US Navy & Northrop Grumman combined test team working together to ensure future capabilities are tested and evaluated in an efficient manner. The selected candidate will perform a variety of data collection and technical support services on the Triton Air vehicle and Ground Control Stations at NAS Patuxent River and various customer locations around the world; and support the research and sustainment of MQ-4C unmanned air vehicle components in direct support of the US Navy.

Responsibilities include Interfacing with NGC and Navy Flight Test Engineers, Flight Test Conductors, and Ground Operations Technicians. This position is the primary interface between maintenance, design and flight test engineering. Systems Test Engineers operate Vehicle and Payload Test Controller software during aircraft start-up/shut down for launch and recovery as well as for static ground tests utilizing BAMS Evaluation, Test and Troubleshooting Interface Equipment (BETTIE).

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts operations in accordance with NGC policy and procedures, and NAVAIR 3960 Test Plans and Procedures and per NATOPS.

  • Reviews and provides inputs during engineering development and executes Detailed Test Requirements, Acceptance Test Procedures and ground Test Plans.

  • Prepares Test Variances in accordance with engineering direction and engineering changes.

  • Responsible for providing inputs to update Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals.

  • Integrates tests and develops strategies to improve test efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

Test Conductor:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 yrs. experience; 0 yrs. with a Masters; 9 years of relevant test experience in lieu of the STEM Degree will be considered.

  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, weekends and holidays.

  • Must be able to work plane side both indoors and outside.

Principal Test Conductor:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 yrs. experience, 3 yrs. with a Masters, 0 yrs. with a PhD or 9 years of relevant test experience in lieu of the STEM Degree will be considered.

  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, weekends and holidays.

  • Must be able to work plane side both indoors and outside.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Unmanned Air Vehicle system test or maintenance experience is highly desired. MQ-4 Vehicle Test Controller or Triton BETTIE operator experience is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with excellent communications skills, including the ability to brief test results to senior leadership.

  • A current Top Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $77,100 - $115,700

Salary Range 2: $95,000 - $142,400

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
