Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Advanced Automation Manufacturing Engineer to join our Advanced Automation team in Palmdale, CA.

The Advanced Automation team is responsible for conception, development, implementation and transition of new technology solutions to the manufacturing floor to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality. Key skills for success within Advanced Automation are creativity, leadership, communication, critical thinking, and thoroughness.

In this role you will develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. You may also provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques, and ensure production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. Your focus in this role will be upon automation projects such as those including drilling systems; fiber placement systems for composites; robotics; coatings applications; projection systems and related equipment.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 9 years' experience in a fabrication and/or assembly manufacturing environment; OR Master's Degree in STEM with 7 years' experience in a fabrication and/or assembly manufacturing environment; OR PhD STEM with 4 years' experience in a fabrication and/or assembly manufacturing environment.

  • Must have a current active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems

  • Experience designing in 3D CAD e.g. CATIA, NX, CREO etc. and a firm understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up

  • Experience in composites fabrication and tooling concepts

  • Experience with manufacturing production automation, robotics and advanced manufacturing technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with project management (cost, schedule and technical performance), systems engineering, and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)

  • Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment

  • Experience with machine controls, electrical theory, PLC ladder logic

  • Experience with robotics and robotic programing
