Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Director of Systems Engineering for the Autonomous Division Systems Engineering Directorate to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA. Secondary locations include Palmdale, California and Redondo Beach, California.
The Director of Systems Engineering will be the Chief Architect responsible for all aspects of engineering for the Control Element including design, development, implementation, integration, testing, and delivery of product to the customer. The Director of Systems Engineering scope will include the, trainers, support equipment, associated communication equipment, internal and external network and equipment to enable DevSecOps operations. The Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for defining CE roadmap and the vision for the current capabilities, and the expansion and capture strategies across all Operating Units (OUs) and integration with the Strike and Sector(s) roadmaps and strategies. The Systems Engineering Director is the technical leader for the program engineering team, and also serves as technical advisor to the multiple program managers. This role will report directly to the Systems Engineering discipline directly to the Systems Engineering National Director. The role will support the Enterprise Chief Engineer directly, for program execution.
This role is typically one of the primary technical point-of-contacts to the customer. The selected candidate coordinates across the program’s Systems Engineering team and other engineering teams. The candidate ensures that all engineering teams adhere to sound engineering processes, in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
DIRECTOR OF SYSTEMS ENGINEERING RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Enterprise Commonality and Design Architecture Strategic Focus
Communicate Effectively and Across all business units for Strike portfolio
The definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on all program elements (hardware/software/support/test)
Influences a multi-disciplined engineering team defining the technical performance of the technical requirements including subcontracted elements.
Coordinates requirements development, hardware/software design, verification, and validation activities.
Establish architecture solutions for Element virtualization and modernization
Provide mission engineering solutions for performance, external interfaces and additional capabilities / payloads
Ensures that the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Maintains cognizance over technical activities within program IPTs and ensures horizontal integration of the best engineering practices across the company.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline and 10 years of relative experience; 8 Years with Masters
Must have experience leading technical teams
Must have experience in large system development, integration, and test
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of customers, employees and management.
Must have Active DoD Top Secret clearance
Demonstrated ability to self-direct activities in support of identified program goals with limited supervision; success is measured using a long-term perspective of incremental improvements to overall program effectiveness
Strong Architecture and integration background
Broad experience in Software, Systems, Aeronautical, Cyber, Cloud and Data Engineering
Must have experience in different phases of software development, testing, integration and execution
Demonstrated history of customer intimacy, acting as a technical spokesperson directly leading to additional company business
Must have experience as; Subject Matter Expert (SME), Technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, Chief Architect/Engineer, or other engineering leadership role that demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree or PhD in STEM or technical management
Experienced in statement of work proposal development
Understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements
Demonstrated effective technical leadership in an agile engineering organization construct
Knowledge of earned value management, control account management experience
Experience in Data Processing, Data Dissemination and Exploitation
Experience in Data Center Operations
Familiarity with Cyber protocols
Familiarity with network architecture and design
Experience developing and implementing Digital Transformation strategies.
Active Strike Program Access
Demonstrated success as a Chief Engineer or Deputy Chief Engineer

Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Salary Range: $204,100 - $306,100
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
