Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Thermal Engineer to join our talented team in Northridge, CA .

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Conducting thermal analyses on various components of a missile system.

• Reading customer SOW/Technical Specification and deriving boundary conditions for thermal models.

• Creating system level and detailed thermal models.

• Perform detailed thermal analyses (cradle to grave) with minimal supervision.

• Perform hand calculation to verify thermal models.

• Design thermal environmental tests to verify thermal models.

• Experience preparing and presenting results/findings to peers and customers.

• Interface with suppliers and customers on an as need basis.

• Familiar with thermal analysis of circuit cards, including

  • Junction temperature calculations

  • Mounting resistance

• Mentor junior engineers in thermal analysis techniques.

This position may be filled at the Principal (T03) or Senior Principal (T04) level. Basic qualifications for each level are listed below.

Some relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available for this position.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for a Principal (T03) are:

• BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

• 5+ years of experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer and aero heating modeling techniques.

• Above average MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

• Proficient in FEMAP/TMG, SINDA (or other commercial thermal analysis codes)

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Gov't issued Secret clearance; US citizenship is required.

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal (T04) are:

• BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

• 9+ years of experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer and aero heating modeling techniques.

• Above average MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

• Proficient in FEMAP/TMG, SINDA (or other commercial thermal analysis codes)

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Gov't issued Secret clearance; US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of MINIVER or other aero heating codes.
