Northrop Grumman Principal Engineer Mission Assurance in Mesa, Arizona

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Mission Assurance Engineer for the Mesa, AZ location.


This Mission Assurance (MA) Engineer must have a servant leader attitude The MA representative provides process support with the goal of achieving superior program performance and strives for 100% Mission Success. The MA representative will provide critical thinking to our segments and programs to assure we are in alignment with our mission and strategies and be a lead voice for function and segment to assure all voices are heard and valued. They will be independent, always looking at our mission and vision to assure our strategies and execution are in alignment with them and that our innovation pipeline supports the mission and the employees' of Northrop Grumman.

A proactive mindset is very beneficial in this role. The MA team manages a healthy pipeline of integrated, multi-disciplined continuous improvement projects, tools and solutions.

Responsibilities included, but not limited to, the following :

  • Integrate contractual and Northrop Quality Management System requirements into all aspects of proposals, contract reviews and program processes and documentation.

  • Create Customer and Supplier Data Requirement List reports in support of program requirements.

  • Conduct labor and material cost estimates in support of Customer / Program requirements relative to quality tasks.

  • Identify and flow down quality requirements in support of contract and business requirements.

  • Perform Quality Planning to include process and product quality plans as required by program data items in accordance with contractual, company and regulatory requirements.

  • Perform supplier and internal part/assembly nonconforming material investigations.

  • Coordinate Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action with the suppliers of suspect products and coordinated inspection of material in inventory.

  • Establish and maintain Quality Assurance programs, procedures and controls ensuring that products and services conform to company standards of excellence.

  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of quality policy and procedures within the Quality Management System (QMS) including performing internal audits to assess conformance.

  • Interface with suppliers in the verification of product design, quality and reliability.

  • Review practices, procedures and processes seeking avenues to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce risk to product quality.

  • Interpret customer technical and MA requirements, and ensure these requirements are integrated into program plans, specifications and product drawings.

  • Ensure program contract requirements are flowed down internally and to suppliers


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus 5 years' experience in a related field or a Master's degree in Engineering plus 3 years of experience or a PhD.

  • Application of technical expertise including complete understanding of fundamental engineering principles, practices, and theories

  • Able to read engineering documentation (drawings, models, specs), interpret drawing dimensions, features, and parts lists, develop inspection plans, and identify critical features

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to understand and work with multiple enterprise-wide systems

  • Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action tools, such as Ishikawa, 5Why, 8D etc

  • Previous experience managing/supporting elements of a Quality Management System

  • Must be willing to travel both domestic and international.

  • Must be a US citizen

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret Security Clearance

  • Familiarity with key materials, technologies and/or processes such as machining, welding, CT scanning, additive manufacturing, laser/light inspection techniques, and chemical processing.

  • Demonstrated process control and improvement experience or similar tools.

  • Proven ability to lead a team

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and oversight

  • Experience working within AS9100 requirements
