Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Engineer / Principal Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL .

Requires coursework and/or experience in aircraft vehicle management systems. Duties include: flight critical system design for aircraft control; architecture design with optimized redundancy levels; trade studies; specification of hardware elements and technical support to procurement; vehicle management software specification and oversight; fault management design; lab testing of flight hardware & software; on-aircraft testing; support to vehicle flight testing; and anomaly resolution. We seek candidates with strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to organize work, manage time, plan, and prioritize.

Primary responsibilities will include VMS Specification development, requirements definition, functional modeling, and VMS testing. In addition, engineer will support subsystems to VMS interfaces including managing requirements, design, testing and presenting updates to internal and external customers.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

For the Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Engineer, the basic qualifications are a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 2 years experience in design and integration of aircraft flight or safety critical systems or a Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university.

For the Principal Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Engineer, the basic qualifications are a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years experience in design and integration of aircraft flight or safety critical systems or 3 years of experience in design and integration of aircraft flight or safety critical systems and a Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university.

Active Secret DOD Security Clearance (last investigation date within 6 years)

Ability to obtain special program access clearance prior to start

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

Experience with VMS Specification development, requirements definition, and functional modeling. In addition, experience with aircraft subsystems to VMS interfaces including working with suppliers, managing requirements, and presenting updates to internal and external customers

Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) development tools such as CORE. Experience with fly-by-wire aircraft and VMS.
