Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Staff System Safety Engineer to help analyze the architecture, design, software safety, development and maintenance of cutting-edge Open Architecture software systems within an operational environment. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida .

The successful candidate will participate as a System Safety expert and provide analysis of software integration with safety critical aircraft systems on the U.S. Navy's E-2D Advance Hawkeye aircraft. The employee will apply software engineering principles to optimize all aspects of safety to increase the operational effectiveness throughout the lifecycle of the system. The position will afford the opportunity to interact with vendors and OEM suppliers to investigate and integrate third party software systems into an operational aircraft environment. In addition, the candidate will provide expert advice and guidance to team members and valued customers regarding specific technical aspects of systems or concept development.

The ideal candidate will understand modern programming languages, software requirements and design patterns, and development platforms. Additionally, the candidate should have an interest in expanding their understanding of avionics software development and systems integration methodologies.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reprts, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support Airworthiness Cetiifcation IAW MIL-HDBK-516.
