Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Software Functional Manager . Position is located in Melbourne, Florida . Opportunity is dual-hat, comprised of functional management activities approximately 20% of the time, and the individual's current program responsibilities approximately 80% of the time.

Responsible for day-to-day communications, performance assessment and feedback, career counseling, professional development, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues and managing a staff of approximately 12-15 engineers. Opportunities to provide project staffing support with recruiting, interviewing and hiring. Will provide detailed employee performance feedback, periodic 1-on-1 meetings, annual mid-term and end of year performance appraisals, making recommendations for salary increases and promotions. Grow as a leader by training, coaching, and mentoring other engineers and support staff within the functional organization. Responsible for evaluating current project requirements, and assurance staff has adequate statement of work to optimize contract performance. Collaborate with the program software manager and IPT leads in establishing personal program and functional goals as well as performing performance evaluations and merit adjustments.
The technical side of this role is to develop, modify and maintain software for airborne applications. Participate in the full life-cycle of software development including; C++, coding to flight/safety critical, coding standards, unit testing and software integration testing, software requirements and design documentation and support for program reviews.
Cross-team collaboration opportunities working closely with Responsible Software, System, & Test Engineers and Development Test Labs to ensure a testable product is being developed.
Design influence to increase product reliability and test coverage, providing recommendations for design, process improvements, and data collection.

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university
• At least 7-years of directly related experience within software development.
• Familiarity with all phases of the software development life cycle.
• Previous experience in technical leadership or management required.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and proficient in C+ • Active in-scope DoD Secret level clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain program access.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
• Experience working in a DevOps culture with continuous integration / continuous deliveries
• Demonstrated leadership of engineering personnel on a Northrop Grumman Corporation program to include software architecture oversight.
• Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite
• Active Top Secret level clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain special program access
• Active program clearance
