Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for an Assistant Department Manager3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The Assistant Department Manager (ADM) will report to the Department Manager and will drive daily operational tasks for the department, implementing and maintaining operational excellence. The ADM will help manage the department indirect budget and also be responsible for coordinating training and support driving the Electronics & Payloads strategic development and vision at the Directorate/Sector level.

Operational tasks include staffing, responding to requests for information, metrics, and management of NCTA, capital and training. The ADM will assist the Department Manager in the development and implementation of departmental vision and strategies to drive employee engagement; improve hiring, development, training, attraction (Staffing) and retention of top talent; manage products and associated product champions; balance process compliance against innovation; and reduce bureaucracy. The scope of hiring includes both industry as well as university recruiting and relationships. The ADM will own department products and/or process/metrics & associated strategies; identify, develop & direct product champions; perform overall strategic development of dept. processes/metrics. They will partner with DM/COE/Directorate to build/maintain technical breadth and depth of the department and participate in Center, Sector and COE improvement initiatives.

The ADM will mentor, develop, and train section managers and will assist the Department Manager in working with programs to drive affordability, first time quality and cost competitiveness for all department related products and indirect activities. The ADM has no direct reports, but will be a resource manager for the department. The ADM position is half time only and therefore requires 50% SOW from a Program.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

  • Minimum 7 years of combined experience in areas of development, integration and test, or sustainment of systems or components subsystems

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in full lifecycle Avionics development or hardware design/development

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in technical leadership or management

  • Minimum 1 year of experience of successful completion of process improvement projects

  • Must have a current Secret DoD level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD Degree in Engineering or Computer Science

  • A current DoD Secret or Top Secret/SCI level security clearance, to include a Single Scope Background Investigation, a periodic reinvestigation, or an original adjudication date completed within the last 6 years

  • Knowledge of E&P processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks

  • Previous experience as a functional manager

  • Experience in Defense & Aerospace industry

  • Green or Black Belt Lean / Six Sigma training and experience

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
