Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sector System Engineering Lead . The position is in the Operational Excellence and Quality organization and will report to the VP, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing. The Primary location for this position is McLean, VA but may be located at one of our major NGDS site, (e.g., Rocket Center, WV, Huntsville, AL, Plymouth, MN, Northridge, CA or Elkton, MD) Relocation assistance may be available.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Sector strategy for system engineering

  • Assessing and recommending improvements in training, processes, and tools to ensure system engineering rigor through all phases of a program lifecycle

  • Developing system engineering plans with the Divisions

  • Providing system engineering expertise to support the Divisions, with an emphasis on creating a strong foundation for program performance including establishing a technical baseline, configuration control, and change management processes

  • Leading system engineering component of significant milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and independent program reviews

  • Creating and leading teams to resolve issues

  • Representing Defense Systems on Enterprise System Engineering bodies

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field with 20 years of experience; Master's Degree with 18 years of experience or PhD + 15 years of experience

  • Familiar with modeling simulation, and analysis tools and processes

  • System Engineering and System-of-System Engineering experience in both hardware and software programs

  • Experience with open architecture systems engineering

  • Experience evaluating the introduction of new processes or tools into established environments

  • Familiar with state of the art model-based system engineering tools and linkages to all program phases and functions

  • Change leadership experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to Top Secret

  • Must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recognized expert in System Engineering and System-of-System Engineering (e.g., published in professional journal, invited conference speaker, major initiative leader)

  • Practical recent experience with state of the art model-based system engineering tools and linkages to all program phases and functions
