Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Facilities Engineering Manager 1 to lead major program build-outs and support strategic planning for the sector. This role is chartered to support the Sector in ensuring on-time, on-budget facilities projects, and can be located at any NGDS facility.


  • Scope, compete and manage large facilities modification projects using multiple subcontractors ensuring on time and on budget project completion

  • Ensure facilities compliance with Federal, State and local laws to include OSHA, NISPOM, USAF, USN, EPA, LA DEQ

  • Plan, design and oversee the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities.

  • Gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility.

  • Coordinate with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings.

  • Prepare bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition.

  • Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs.

  • Inspect or direct the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

  • Collaborate with facilities management, facilities engineering, projects, IT, telecomm, security, and maintenance management teams to propose solutions and strategies to business challenges.

  • Assist in the preparation of new business proposals translating RFP requirements into cost effective facilities solutions to provide a winning proposal

  • Conduct briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives.

  • Exert influence in the development of overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization


Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of Facilities experience

  • Will also consider:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years of Facilities experience

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 4 years of Facilities experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading people, projects, or programs to completion or successful goal attainment

  • Ability to travel as required, anticipated around 75% of the time

  • Must be able to work on-site in one of the following locations:

  • McLean, Virginia

  • Rolling Meadows, Illinois

  • Mesa, Arizona

  • Northridge, California

  • Warner Robins, Georgia

  • Huntsville, Alabama

  • Lake Charles, Louisiana

  • Orlando, Florida

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to support proposal efforts by transforming Performance Work Statement requirements into costed facilities requirements to cost effectively meet program performance goals

  • Experience designing and specifying electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems

  • Experience building different levels of classified space: TS/SCI, Tempest, Closed/NISPOM, SAPF, Collateral Secret

  • Knowledge of Northrop Grumman facilities and processes

  • A current Secret or higher security clearance

  • Knowledge of Building and Fire Code requirements

  • Ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings

  • Experience managing teams and achieving organization objectives, goals, and tracking performance metrics, especially budget and schedule. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and experience briefing senior level management and executive leadership

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Excel
