Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, CA.
The selected candidate will develop and implement processes in a lab environment supporting various space, aircraft, and ground systems.
In this position you will operates as Lead Manufacturing Engineer, supporting assembly floor, and leading a team of Manufacturing Engineers supporting the hardware:
Highly skilled at prioritizing tasks, making and keeping commitments, and have a good understanding of balancing quantity and quality of work based on the task requirements. Also, be effective at multitasking tasks from more than one project or assignment. Be highly skilled in making good technical decisions.
Lead UMPRs, and be highly skilled at presenting at IDRs. Be highly skilled at analyzing and updating Solumina work order planning to support flight production needs. Provide guidance to design engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques and ensure processes and procedures are in compliance.
Be highly skilled at working under pressure and accept the responsibility necessary to fulfill the requirements of each assignment. Have an excellent understanding of the sustaining process and MRB. Be responsible to work on complex technical problems for the development, integration, and implementation of manufacturing capabilities across the sector.
Manage manufacturing process, FIPP/PR updates, process roll-out, training production personnel:
Be highly skilled at contributing and leading technical meetings in which the purpose is to resolve issues or generate innovative ideas. Have an excellent understanding of design standards, FIPPS, PRs, and other related standards, and know where and how to use them.
Proactively pursue and initiate process improvements to help organizations meet their objectives and goals. Be highly skilled at presenting ideas and convincing others of the validity of one's viewpoint.
Provide mentorship to manufacturing engineers:
Be highly skilled at teaching and coaching manufacturing engineers or assembly operators. Also, be able to learn from the experience of other manufacturing engineers and technical experts.
Be highly skilled at leading and motivating others in performing necessary tasks. Have an excellent understanding of the review process. Also be able to review drawings for form, fit, and function and be able to train others in the process.
Be competent in contributing and leading technical meetings in which the purpose is to resolve issues or generate innovative ideas.
Lead qualifications of equipment and processes:
Capturing lessons learned and implement improvements. Be highly skilled at conducting business case studies and doing independent research into industry standards. Have a thorough knowledge of the resources that are available to obtain additional technical information (i.e. vendors, technical information center, PRC, etc.)
Have a thorough knowledge of basic manufacturing processes such as: soldering, coating, use of adhesives and mechanical fastener requirements. Also, be knowledgeable of materials and processes and NGAS specific M&M and Mfg. Systems such as PR specifications, FIPPs, and C-drawings.
Have an excellent understanding of the technical considerations associated with hardware designs used in space-based systems.
Provide technical support for the hardware Sub Project Manager, by providing estimates on cost, schedule and status of technical issues:
Have a thorough understanding of hardware architecture and the ability to correlate complexity with production bench hours.
Have an excellent understanding of how and when to hold ground for technical and/or schedule reasons and when to ask for assistance. Be fully aware of how schedules affect budgets and how to manage to them concurrently.
Be able to resolve issues and arrive at solutions to problems in a systematic way. This requires the ability to operate independently with little senior support and exercise good judgment in the decision making process.
Develop and report to Manufacturing Production Schedules and prepare and present Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.
The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.

STEM Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of engineering experience; or a STEM Master's degree with 3+ years of engineering experience; or a STEM PhD. degree
Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years
OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years
OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years
2+ years of previous experience working with CREO
Previous experience with EPS-R design, production, or testing
SSBI security clearance or willingness to be put in for clearance
