Northrop Grumman is looking for an Assistant Department Manager within the Electronics and Payloads Directorate to support the Product Engineering Department manager in the overall management of the department and direct management of senior staff. The Product Engineering Department is an organization of 120 engineers and technical specialists that performs advanced packaging development, mechanical design & analysis of electronic products for a variety of space and air programs.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Specific knowledge related to mechanical design / electronic packaging, PCB design, analysis techniques and tools, and product qualification

  • General knowledge related to current state-of-the-art, packaging trades, and cost considerations / factors for various packaging architectures / configuration levels

  • Project management skills for all phases of electronics hardware development, from proposal and initial cost estimating, requirements derivation, design, fabrication / assembly / test sustaining, to delivery

  • Solid technical writing skills, communication, leadership and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the department manager and functional team in the vision, leadership and execution of Product Engineering functions including mechanical design, PCB design and stress/thermal analysis of electronic products and related software / tools / process optimization and automation

  • Functional & performance management of 10-15 direct employees and guidance to larger 120 employee organization

  • Supporting the day-to-day operations, new business proposal & costing support

  • Performing employee development, career planning and mentorship

  • Interfacing with programs and other functional organizations

  • Working staffing requirements forecasting, resource staffing & recruiting activities

  • Delivering core competencies with necessary processes and tool maintenance

  • Working technical & personnel issue resolution

  • Ensuring technical review of hardware designs and analyses

  • Support the development and execution of engagement-related activities and plans

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline

  • A minimum of 7 years of electronic packaging, mechanical design and/or analysis experience

  • Active SCI clearance

  • Experience leading a team of >10 employees

  • Experience partnering across organizations and programs as part of a top performing functional team

  • Experience mentoring and coaching employees

  • Knowledge of Functional Homeroom processes (e.g., Staffing, Tools/Processes, Metrics, Training)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline

  • Familiarity with NGAS technical & administrative processes and procedures

  • Electronics design development and sustaining experience spanning cradle to grave

  • Experience supporting Bid & Proposal activities

  • Familiarity with electrical design, electronics manufacturing organizations and processes

  • Familiarity with advanced packaging focus areas and technologies
