Northrop Grumman User Experience (UX) Designer/Developer Sr. in Lorton, Virginia
Northrop Grumman Technology Services is seeking an experienced User Experience (UX) Designer / Developer to join our high functioning team of analysts and designers, as well as specialists in web and mobile development to deliver outstanding results for our customer. The candidate must have extensive IA/UX experience working on large, complex web sites and applications. We are seeking an expert in user experience strategy and design, information architecture, and front-end prototyping for web, mobile, and other digital delivery platforms. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's team to support the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Passenger Systems Program Directorate (PSPD) suite of computer and automated software applications. CBP PSPD supports a broad range of complex business systems which are instrumental to the CBP mission of securing our borders while facilitating legitimate trade and travel. All work will be performed on site at CBP offices in Northern Virginia. Some local travel to various CBP sites may be required.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Work with multiple teams on various projects within an Agile environment
Work directly with customers and project teams to gather requirements through user research, stakeholder interviews, workshops, etc.
Participate in brainstorming sessions with users, stakeholders, designers, and developers
Develop/create applicable user flows, journey maps, page flows, wireframes, and other artifacts as needed
Develop visually rich mock-ups and UI assets in accordance with style guide standards
Conduct rapid iterative usability testing of wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
Translate research findings into design recommendations to quickly improve product designs early in the design cycle
Leverage UX methodologies for uncovering user needs and identifying opportunities for improvement
Work within cross-functional UX teams and across discipline boundaries to deliver high-quality user experiences
Actively engage stakeholders through group facilitation and workshops
Understand and align the needs of our stakeholders, clients, and users
Assess the usability of applications and websites through testing and iteration
Contribute to the development of standards, patterns and guidelines that will govern UX design practices
Provide thought leadership towards emerging UX best practices, trends, and technologies
-9 years' experience with a Bachelor's degree;7 years' with a Masters degree; 4 years' experience with a PhD.
A solid portfolio of web, mobile, and application design is required. An online portfolio demonstrating sample work must be included with theapplication/resume.
Solid understanding of Accessibility (Section 508 Compliance)
Must have an active or be able to obtain a DHS/CBP security clearance
Experience working with front-end development frameworks (e.g., Angular/React, NodeJS, and Bootstrap)
Extensive experience designing web application interfaces in an agile environment
Working knowledge of iOS and Android design guidelines and patterns
Knowledge and adoption of UX industry best practices, including user-centered design methodologies
Strong visual and interaction design proficiency, as well as a superior understanding of current front-end coding practices
Strong design fundamentals including information design, interaction design, visual design, industry UX/UI standards across platforms, and UX best practices
Experience in user research, user interface design, information architecture, usability testing, human factors, and other related disciplines
Outstanding communication, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills
Fluency in mobile platforms, including design guidelines for native applications
Understanding of and experience with adaptive and responsive web and application design
Demonstrated proficiency with industry standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, et. al)
Proficient use of common rapid prototyping tools (e.g., Axure Pro, Balsamiq, et. al)
Aspiration to stay on top of cutting edge hardware, software, and interaction design as it applies to the industry
Awareness of new trends in interactive design, development, and digital platforms
Good written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong listening skills
Must be a US Citizen
Active CBP Clearance
Working knowledge of the US Digital Services Playbook
Advanced knowledge of usability, accessibility (Section 508 Compliance), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and other standard best practices
