Northrop Grumman Technology Services sector is seeking a Chief Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's team to support the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Passenger Systems Program Directorate (PSPD) suite of computer and automated software applications. CBP PSPD supports a broad range of complex business systems which are instrumental to the CBP mission of securing our borders while facilitating legitimate trade and travel. This position requires a highly motivated, self-reliant team player. This position is located in Lorton, VA. Telework is not allowed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate implementation of modern software development technology, process improvements and best practices

  • Coordinate development of rich- and web-based solutions primarily using Java

  • Mentor a team of software engineers to ensure software quality and implementation of software engineering best practices

  • Collaborate with systems engineers to analyze user needs to identify, decompose, document, and implement system requirements

  • Collaborate with systems engineers to assess impacts of proposed changes in terms of functionality and risks

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum 14 years' experience in software engineering

  • Demonstrated software development expertise at a senior level with Java

  • Demonstrated peer mentorship ability

  • Demonstrated expertise in modern software engineering best practices (e.g., DevOps, continuous integration, automated testing, etc.)

  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in software engineering, computer science, or similar field

  • Minimum 14 years' software development experience with one or more of these technologies: Java, .Net

  • Minimum 10 years' experience performing software engineering in an Agile environment

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in AWS or similar cloud-based software solutions

  • Demonstrated expertise migrating legacy solutions to cloud environment

  • Certification in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
