Today’s dynamic global security threats require solutions both big and small – solutions living within the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC). One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Sr. Staff Requirements and Test Plans Systems Engineer with demonstrated ability to lead development of new technologies to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.
This position will serve 100% on-site in Linthicum / Annapolis Junction, MD .
What You’ll Get to Do:
Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performing functional analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware, software, firmware, and integration and test specifications. Interfacing with multiple disciplines, including customers, internal executive management, program management, hardware, software, system engineering, procurement, suppliers, and manufacturing. In addition, the applicant must be able to lead, and report progress for requirements documentation, technical risk management, key system performance parameters, and lessons learned.
The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have an excellent track record as an effective communicator and problem solver, who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the business areas as required to accomplish the team goals.
Role and Responsibilities
Support the Systems Architect with any program specific responsibilities allocated to the role to include:
Design and development of sensor system architectures and definition of key capabilities and performance requirements
Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical constraints
Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
Lead / oversee technical work products developed by the larger engineering team, supporting design reviews, integration and test activities as needed
Support the System Architecture requirements that satisfies customer needs, including modularity, scalability, and extensibility
Develop thorough definition of system interfaces
Collaborates with ASIC engineers to explore performance and power trade-offs upon different use-cases and system conditions.
Determines specs and working parameters for ASIC / System compatibility.
Coordinates subsystems design and integration into higher level systems.
Maintain knowledge of current and developing technologies and developing strategies for their insertion into both legacy and next-generation systems
Provide presentations to customers and senior management, with tailored material based on the audience.
Apply new technologies as well as common designs and products enabling rapid development, prototyping and affordable solutions.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Staff Requirements and Test Plans Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 14 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 10 years of experience.
Demonstrated Experience with the following topics: RF Systems Engineering, ASIC Product lifecycle, Systems Integration, Device Characterization.
Able and willing to work on-site full-time in a program area
Ability to troubleshoot and analyze complex problems.
Candidate must be a US Citizen
Clearance: Candidate must currently have and be able to maintain an Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph
Preferred Qualifications of Sr. Staff Requirements and Test Plans Systems Engineer:
Current/active DoD Top Secret Clearance and SCI w/FSP
Leadership experience with development and/or production program execution
Experience leading technical teams
High proficiency in technical problem solving; to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
Multi-disciplined knowledge in areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, integration and test.
Silicon bring-up and debug experience.

Salary Range: $174,800 - $274,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
