The Northrop Grumman Weapon Systems (WSD) Division is seeking a Director of Engineering 2 to join our team located in Linthicum, Maryland . This position will be a member of the Division Leadership Team (DLT) and work directly for the VP/GM. The selected candidate will lead Engineering Division teams in creating technologically differentiated solutions to our U.S. and international customers' toughest challenges, including Advanced Propulsion, Tactical Munitions, and Advanced Weapons. The Weapon Systems Division is a leading global provider of defense solutions to enable decision-making and defeat advanced threats, while supporting military operations and readiness.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development and deployment of disruptive technologies enabling competitive advantage in attractive growth markets across the Division's multiple lines of business

  • Executes division-level technology roadmaps aligned to the division's business strategies across the AOP/LRSP

  • Establishes the Division's technology investment strategy (NCTA and Capital) across AOP/LRSP

  • Grows the division's mission focused engineering competency/capability, model-based systems engineering (MBSE) skillsets, and modeling, simulation and analysis capabilities

  • Responsible for engineering workforce management and development for 1700+ engineers and scientists supporting the development of weapon systems hardware, software and supporting technologies.

  • Develops the division's technical work force and technical leaders, to include Technical Fellows and NG Fellows

  • Drive workforce planning efforts and ensures the business is appropriately staffed to enable resource sharing across multiple business areas

  • Ensures enterprise Digital Transformation (DT) and division investments are integrated into the division's business and organizational culture

  • Formulates and implements the division-level strategy to capture additional customer funded R&D contracts (CRAD)

  • Strengthens customer understanding of division's technology progress and technical capabilities

  • Unlocks company value through strategic focus area coordination across enterprise campaigns and other sector/division in-flight capabilities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in an engineering discipline

  • A minimum of 15 years overall experience with at least 8 years management experience; with a Master's degree 13 years overall experience with at least 6 years of specific experience in engineering management.

  • Must have experience leading technology and engineering teams

  • Experience developing digital engineering, product support, and logistics environments

  • Ability to organize, balance and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Demonstration of strong analytical skills

  • Experience with agile processes and tools

  • Leadership behaviors exhibiting teamwork and communication skills

  • Ability to travel 25%

  • Active Secret clearance

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline

  • Experience with managing a P&L portfolio, international programs, proposals, contracts, manufacturing and/or operations

  • Excellent skills in critical thinking, writing, editing and visual element planning

  • Top Secret (or SAP) clearance

Salary Range: $218,300 - $327,500

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
