Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an opening for an Associate EO/IR Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Linthicum/ Baltimore, MD.

What You'll get to Do:

As a leading provider of state-of-the- art EO/IR sensor solutions for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal, Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is a world leader in advanced sensor systems and design. These include EO/IR products for the F-16, C-130, A-10, and B-52 to name a few.

Roles & Responsibilities : Optical Engineers work with a team to support product development and Research & Development activities at our campus in Linthicum. MD. Based on detailed trade studies and requirements analysis, our engineers develop modern solutions to satisfy current system requirements as well as future challenges and perform functions involved in all aspects of design which can include:

  • Designing new models

  • Analyzing and testing optical and electro-optical systems and components, including but not limited to sensors, lasers, fiber-optics and telecommunications products.

  • Conducting and developing components into phases of physical optics and geometric optics, lasers, laser characteristics, laser maintenance, and broadband optical sources.

  • Applying research of complex optical systems to achieve desired optical manipulations.

  • Developing component specifications, tolerances, simulations and test procedures for electro-optical systems and components.

  • Using design-to-cost models, six-sigma methodology, and other methods to assure optical design requirements are met for commercial, industrial and domestic customers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with relevant work experience

  • Basic understanding of active EO principles and general familiarity with optics

  • Ability to work both independently and with teams

  • Competency with Python, MATLAB, and/ or C+ Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with optical integration

  • Familiarity with photonic interactions at a range of wavelengths

  • Experience with developmental systems

  • Experience with prototype systems

  • Familiarity with optical systems such as Zemax, Code V, or FRED
